Chances are we won't get anyone better then Beck at 15 and Matheson isn't going to hurt us. Easy trade at trade deadline.

I don't see Husso as a need.

Beck is future third line center. We keeping him. We can get a first for Matheson several years in future. No need to move him now.

Aside from Edvinsson, who's still a rookie/prospect that's a little weak and Matheson would easily be the top LD.

No, it's that it's 2 years.

And in those 2 years they have cap tied up in LHD that are not in the long term plans.

Like Matheson.

"Value" isn't great for Montreal - giving up a top-4LD, a quality prospect (if not one projected to produce points) and taking on a bad contract, for a single middle of the 1st pick.

That being said, I don't see why Detroit does this. They are set on D and doing well with their rebuild. I don't see Matheson as any great need.

Dvorak for a 3d might make more sense.

Nope - I don't think this trade works for either team,

I can't imagine Montreal has any interest in Husso, nor Detroit for Matheson. Montreal doesn't need a mediocre goalie, and Detroit doesn't need a LD.
I think you overvalued Matheson, and undervalue Edvinsson.
If Detroit does trade for a defenseman, it will be a RD, not a LD.

Maybe for the 10th pick, I'd slightly consider that but I do see a drop off by 11 personally to knock the value down

Matheson is a fine defender and this probably favours Detroit to a certain degree but I’d rather not make this trade as a Wings fan. And I doubt many Montreal fans find it agreeable.
