Roster spots.Weird move by Stevie. Yamamoto is overpaid but it's not like Detroit is hurting for cap space.
But it cost them cap space cuz they still have the buyout hitting their cap this year and next year.It was for future considerations
still an NHL player though right ? Million/1 year type ?That settles the Yamamoto debate. There was no demand for him at his number and he had negative trade value.
First extension handed out in a few hours should be Seider and for max term and high dollars.Detroit obviously has something up their sleeve. Maybe what they’re making sure of, is signing a couple of players that allows them to make the trades they’d like to. Whether that’s for Konecny, Debrincat, Scheifele, Hellebuyck, Miller, Pesce, etc….
For example, if they can sign O’Reilly for 2-3 years, after drafting Danielson, does it make them feel more comfortable moving Kasper for Pesce, if that’s who Carolina is demanding? They drafted 2 goaltenders. Did they do that knowing Cossa is on the move in a deal with Husso for Hellebuyck, but want to make sure they sign another winger like Killorn because Winnipeg also wants Kubalik or Fabbri in that deal?
It has to be something like this. Not saying these exact examples, but something is up, and the fact they haven’t done it yet with all the space they have, says they’re waiting on something.

Odd move. Have to think another shoe will drop.
Cap space. You are welcome.Holland cashing in some future considerations Stevie owed him?
No horse in that race. I could care less other than it’s a team with a lot of cap, that is going to do something. That makes things interesting when most teams don’t have much cash to spend. Please don't be mad when Stevie doesn't go xbox mode tomorrow
Detroit is below the cap floor though, that doesnt make sense, makes more sense if they did it to free up a roster spot instead maybe.Cap space. You are welcome.
Holland cashing in some future considerations Stevie owed him?
So Detroit has to sign Kostin or this becomes a needless trade for Detroit.
If he's saying he's not worth close to $3.1M, how desirable of a player does he think he is?The guy above you is literally still somehow arguing that Yamamoto is a desirable NHL player and somehow it's just his cap hit thats the issue.
Wings couldn't make it work with like 3/4 openings at forward and $27M in cap space?
Maybe the "future considerations" was Holland agreeing to give Yzerman a two week vacation starting tomorrow and he's going to cover the Red Wings' GM duties by re-living his Playoff Streak glory days and have about 25 of that 27M occupied by 4PM tomorrow.
Because a buyout counts some money against the cap for next year as well.why would they if they don't want the player?
