So Regensburg don't have a license to promote?

Exactly!

I believe Kassel, Dresden, Krefeld, and Bietigheim were the only teams to submit the paperwork for a promotion license last offseason.

Ironically, Dresden and Bietigheim had the two worst records in the league and Bietigheim, long a DEL2 powerhouse, has been relegated.

This said, Augsburg better get its act together next season, because the 3rd time's the charm, right?

As much as you'd think Bremerhaven would be viewed as the nationwide underdog fan fave, I sense among fans of various organizations I've been in touch with that folks are hoping Berlin will win because a lot of people just don't like how Bremerhaven has so few real German players in their line-up and have had a tradition of finding guys from other countries who end up getting German player passes thanks to whatever stipulations. They just see Berlin having more of those core national team guys in key positions (i.e. Müller, Wissman, Noebels, Pföderl, Tiffels, etc.) and find themselves sympathizing more with that.

I have updated my earlier post with the incoming and outgoing players for next season.

I really like the moves by Mannheim so far. Fohrler and Kälble should improve the defense and I have always liked Kristian Reichel and am excited to see what he can do in this league.

EDIT: They also added Marc Michaelis.

Luca Hauf returns home from the WHL and signed with Ingolstadt.

David Lewandowski will likely get a look in the DEL next season. Of course he could still end up playing overseas.

What do you feel is the likelihood that Lewandowski would head to North America for next season to play CHL or USHL hockey?

If he stays in Germany, I just don't see him getting into DEL action unless it's a gimmick type thing like with Paul Mayer this season.

But my mind might change as the fall approaches...

I could see him being drafted but he probably wants to play for DEG because it was always his dream type thing.

I don't think Lewandowski's situation is comparable to Mayer.
Simply because it is Düsseldorf and they have been far more generous when it comes to giving minutes to their prospects than Mannheim has been. Only Nürnberg has been even more willing to play their youngsters in recent years. Obviously he would have to earn it, but he might just do that. Physically he still has to get stronger for the pro game, but it's not like he is completely outmatched. The pace could be an issue, but even a little taste here and there might help him get up to speed (pun intended).
I could definitely see him get a look, probably not an extensive one, and he will most likely spend the majority of the season playing DEL2, but he has little left to prove in junior hockey (at least in Germany).
As for the likelihood of him going to North America, I have absolutely no information about that, but the last few years most of our better prospects have decided to stay in Gemany and turn pro early or go to another European country (mostly Sweden) or the Red Bull route. Lewandowski strikes me more like a guy who stays closer to home. North America seems like option number 3 or 4 at this point, for most of the kids.
