Has just been recently named to the ECHL All-Star team. He leads the league in save percentage as well. He looked pretty good for Calgary in the preseason.

Why did the Panthers let this guy go?

Because he's not that good? He's been named to the ECHL all star team, well congratulations you were drafted in 2004, about time. He should be named to the all star team, he should have best SV%. He's 24 years old. Actually, he was named to A.S. team back in 07, but still, no big accomplishment to be named right now. I didn't see him in preseason, but the guy has failed to even stay in the AHL for most of his pro career and he was drafted 6 years ago. The Panthers have 6 goalie prospects who are better than Shantz on their worst day. And I'm not just saying that because he's ex-property. When he was a Panthers prospect Cats fans used to make fun of how bad he was. I wish the guy well and want to see him succeed, but I wouldn't get my hopes up of this guy ever turning into anything at all.

ECHL all-star team? I realize good goalies get pushed down there sometimes, but there's very good goalies in the AHL who aren't even close to getting a sniff at the NHL.
