Not their choice. They have done everything they can to sign him, but he hasn't signed yet. He still may. But it's his choice not Nashvilles

Hell yeah. Need all the help on D we can get. Hopefully it's finalized come March.

He may not cut it but it's no skin off our noses if he doesn't. Free wallet and all them Burkie-isms.

Nice!

A subtle yet noticeable change from the previous management regime - I can't see Burke or Nonis signing a Russian.

Burke signed zero Russians, so far Shannyplan has drafted/signed

  1. Soshnikov 2015
  2. Timashov 2015
  3. Dzierkals 2015
  4. Korostelev 2015
  5. Valiev 2014

Wasn't the KHL much more attractive during Burkes time here?

But if he signs now, it means he has to drop out of school. Hope Leafs sign him though as it does not cost any assets

I think Zaitsev would make a lot more sense with Gardiner on the mid-pairing. A big shot, two-way ability and would look better with a PMD.

Now we can have Phaneuf and Rielly on the same pair. Babcock should be able to utilise Dion in a far more defensive role in which where his shot is used more effectively.

Rielly - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Hunwich - RHD

Personally, I can't see Zaitsev eating top pairing minutes either. A mid-pairing role would be excellent while Hunwick is pushed down to the bottom-pairing.

Timashov and Dzierkals aren't Russian.

Both have lineage to the Soviet Union.

I don't think it's far fetched to include them in the group of players.

I don't think Burke would have ever drafted either Timashov or Dzierkals.

Phaneuf is having his best season in years playing on the 2nd pairing. Less minutes is really showing, he should remain there. If Zaitsev is capable of playing top minutes with Rielly (and its very possible) then thats where he should play.

Not Russians but yes Shanny is not afraid of drafting those smallish euro players chalked full of skill and speed.

Timashov and Dzierkals aren't Russian.

Would former USSR region be better? ;)

Timashov is half-Russian and half-Ukrainian, but grew up in Sweden.

Dzierkals, a Latvian native, plays in the Russian junior league.

Close enough for me.

Our future is really looking bright now.

We have so many prospects, obviously only a few will hit their ceiling but I still like our odds with the insane prospect depth at every position now.

Only thing we're really missing is a young high end defense prospect...

I'm some what worried about our defence, when you compare our pro and prospect D to Nashville, Chicago, Minnny, LA, Canes even CLB ...we don't stack up all that well.

now we just need Vesey to tell the Preds to Stick it

:yo:

Enter the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are looking for a young talented player to go alongside Steven Stamkos, who all of their fans are sure will sign with the Leafs at the end of this year as a UFA. They hired Jimmy Vesey’s father, Jim, as a scout in their organization, reminiscent of college football teams that hire the father of a prized recruit as part of their staff. They also drafted Vesey’s brother Nolan in the 6th round of the 2014 draft.

Now there are rumors everywhere that Vesey will be joining the Leafs at the end of the season. Fansided’s own Editor in Leaf wrote this article. They wrote this: “It’s ignorant to think the Toronto Maple Leafs wouldn’t have an inside track on Vesey if he was going to head to free agencyâ€.

The differences in utilisation of the mid and top-pairing defenceman are marginal this time. Babcock doesn't really have a specialised shut down pairing and instead spreads the duties onto two-pairing.

Remember Phaneuf is our #2, Gardiner our #3 and that's despite Hunwick playing on the 'top' pairing. Shuffling them around shouldn't have any big impact on their performances.

I believe in the Ying and Yang more than 1+1=2 when it comes to line mates. It seems to be that Dion and Jake are playing good as a pair and compliment each other well.

So really he hasn't signed yet? Nothing finalized? Just telling teams it's his intention to sign here or am I missing something?

Zaitsev and Gardiner on the point for the PP would be quite deadly. Add in a playmaker like Nylander, Marner, Kadri .. And one-timers all day.

just need to say nylander is a shooter and so is kadri..yes nylander is a great passer as well but marner thats the pass first out of the 3 above mentioned..either way its great skill

It's probably as simple as that. Teams may want to talk to him & he's telling them he's going to play with the Leafs.

If they are allowed, I wouldn't doubt that Leafs have already made the offer & there has been an agreement & shaking of hands awaiting the official signing.

OK thanks. I just thought I missed something as so many posters have penciled him in already.
For my end I've always believed he will sign here and this makes it seem very very likely.
