Create your best team using the following parameters:

Choose the best 20 man team, picking a players one particular season (i.e. Gretzky 81-82).

You can only choose a player once and you can only use one season per 5 years.

One player from each of the following time periods

06-10
00-04
95-99
90-94
85-89
80-84
etc. all the way back to 1910-1914

I'll be working on mine while stuck here at work

A few too many centres, so I might come back to this later and fix that. I would prefer to have another defensively responsible forward or two as well. Schmidt was very close with Doug Bentley 43 for me, but I was skeptical about the quality of the NHL that season. I was torn between Lafleur 77 and Potvin 79 but found another elite defencemen to be more valuable... I might switch Beliveau for Harvey and switch Lafleur and Potvin.

imo, ovechkin was better in 2010 and 2009 than 2008. he dominated individually in 2008 when washington was not particularly talented, but played more of a team game in 2009 and 2010, which also suits this format better.

mikita and nighbor usually played C, but both played also played W.

other good options are using jagr instead of lidstrom or lafleur instead of potvin.
