140 points exactly. Just continuing to pull further away from the pack.

Matthews was the better player last year. Make a bridge and get over it.
Except he wasn't in the regular season. Comparable at best.

And then the playoffs made it evidently more clear how massive the gap is between them. Matthews isn't even in the same area code as McDavid as a player.

Yup. The funny thing is that there are still Leaf fans out there who claim Matthews is better. It’s just sad at this point.

What pack did he pull away from last season? 5 point lead in the reg season and 1 in the playoffs?

I mean the Hart and Ted Lindsay award would suggest otherwise but sure I'll take your word for it.

Good thing the Hart/Pearson are regular season awards.

Simply going by his career average it would be around 117pts in 82 games. Sure he paced higher last year(and the weird quasi-season before that most of all) but alot of offensive dynamos peak quite early in terms of absolute numbers so I guess ill vote for 110-119, wouldn't be surprised to see 130~ but would be even less surprised to see 115.

Anything below 110 or above 135 would be very unexpected for me.

Of course that is if he plays close to all games which is far from a given but that also gives some room for missing a handful of games and still be within prediction rate.

You don't win the Hart for being good in the playoffs. It was a very competitive year for the Hart with guys like Matthews, Shesterkin and Josi also having insane seasons.

McDavid was amazing aswell but he "only" had 8 points more than Gaudreau and Huberdeau. It wasn't the Gretzky-level of dominance you're trying to sell it as.

McDavid's the best player in the world but Matthews got 60 goals while being good defensively, it's not outrageous to give him an award for that.

McDavid scored at a 1.86 ppg under Jay Woodcroft who unlike Dave Tippett actually has some kind of offensive system other than "wait for the PP to score".

That was a 134 point pace.

That scoring rate also went up in the playoffs to literal Wayne Gretzky in his prime levels (an absurd 2.065 ppg).

132 points, finally hits the 50+ goal mark.

A full RS with a guy who can actually put the puck in the net plus that PP. Also think the PO success from last year will translate into them having a strong RS as a team.

Well yeah one plays in toronto the other in edmonton. But i agree although Matthews did have a good enough season to give voters a reason to pick someone else other than mcdavid
