Last time the Hawks didn't register a single real shot on go (credited with a SOG that was just a flip into the zone) in the first period. It was an amazing game, might have been one of the worst periods of professional hockey at any level I have ever seen.

After the scorching 17 sog yesterday, I'm taking the over on 1.5 sog for the first period against the wild this afternoon.

can't bring myself to take the over on 20 sog for the game.

The Decision: Bedard Will Win the Calder Trophy

Credit to Faber for making it a contest while Bedard was away, but in reality, it’s no contest: Bedard will win the Calder Trophy. By sheer numbers alone, it was always going to be Bedard’s trophy to lose, and the narrative of a hot-shot No. 1 talent taking over the Windy City and launching the comeback of an Original Six franchise is too sexy of a narrative to pass up on.

While other first-year players gained traction in his absence to possibly challenge him for the Calder Trophy later this season, they haven't quite done enough to pass him for that award in the minds of the 14-person panel with NHL.com. Bedard received 66 voting points, including 10 first-place votes from the writers. Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber was second with 56 points (three first-place votes), followed by Carolina Hurricanes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov (28 points), New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes (23 points), and Minnesota Wild forward Marco Rossi(19 points).

This should be a shoe-in for Bedard. But given that most hockey writers can't find their ass with both hands and directions from a proctologist, I'm nervous.

This is true but they're not going to vote for an US system product who plays defense. I don't think the vote will be close. Bedard won the Calder when fans wrote songs of him 15 months ago
