My guess: it's not an issue, but just a report.

# of head hits and other obstruction calls vs non (too many men on ice, delay of game, etc.). Perhaps a discussion of what zebras feel need to be called more and/or clarification of rules.

what more are they wanting to discuss about goalie equipment???

IIRC, start of this season the upper body protection was supposed to be in place. But a few things in the total package were delayed due to late approvals not giving equipment manufacturers enough time to produce it all, and get approved by NHL, before start of season. My guess is this is an update of "where we are now" and "did equipment changes (shrinkage) work to increase scoring; or not work and result in more goalie injuries".

28. The Competition Committee met Thursday in New York City, and out of that came news that goalies will be expected to wear the updated chest protectors in 2018–19. The tighter pants became mandatory in February 2017, and the chest pieces were supposed to follow last year. That didn’t happen because the manufacturers couldn’t get it done. Now, at last, we are there. I don’t have the specific measurements, but the new designs are sloped at the shoulders, less “boxy” overall and more contoured along the body, and have thinner elbows/forearms.

Hopefully equipment will be available for goalies to work with before camp.

The competition committee is the most broken aspect of hockey. The fact that this is something that has to convene once in a while rather than being a dedicated year-round department is the reason why we have problems like goalie equipment still existing or bad officiating directives or failure to update the 89 year old offside rule.

Competition Committee is a negotiated entity between NHL and NHLPA. Players do not want to be dictated to; they want to be represented in the decisions that impact how they play.

That means (if only active players are participants) that meetings have to be scheduled around games/play. (Fans, brass don't want to release players to participate in games if it means they aren't available to play.)

Have a better solution, @Nalens Oga?
