Can Tampa go back-to-back and end Chicago's dynasty for good? RIP 2013 Hawks, 2010 next?

Incredible matchups, 2 generations, dominant teams.

Kucherov vs Kane and Palat vs Hossa are much better comparables than the ones you listed.

I imagined CHI would line up Hossa opposite of Kuch to shut him down. Hossa in those days could lock up anyone (except Sid and Malkin).
The way you listed the players it looks like you’re talking about comparing similar or similarly situated players rather than potential matchups. I mean Keith vs Hedman isn’t really a matchup you would see. Nor is Cernak vs Hjalmarsson.

Dustin Byfuglien as a 3rd line power forward.
Brian Campbell on the 2nd pairing.
Patrick Sharp at his absolute peak.

The depth on this Chicago team is insane. The Tampa bay team is amazing, but I would pick this Blackhawks team to win this whole thing. Goaltending is their only issue, and Niemi was actually good during that run.

Vasilevskiy sways it enough toward Tampa for me. Tampa has better elite players, Chicago has better depth. Both barely, though.

Could easily see a series like this going 7 games with most going to OT. These are, IMO, the two best teams of the Cap era.

Might very well be true, but that 2015 team was very different from the 2010 team. 2015 was clearly the weakest of the Hawks' cup teams IMO.
Very good point!

Yeah them along with Anaheim and Detroit from 07 and 08 for me.

I like Tampa here. I think they beat Chicago in 2015 if Kucherov doesnt get hurt anyway and that 2020 team was way better.
2010 was better than 2015 Hawks though. That team had pretty crazy depth. Speed and skill up and down the lineup. Other teams had a tough time keeping up. The goaltending was the biggest shaky aspect of course (whereas by 2015 they had a really good Crawford)

Well, we - HFBoards - have already decided the 2020 Lightning could beat the superior 2013 Blackhawks team.

Not sure what the argument for the 2010 team would be…

I voted for the 2013 team over the 2020 Lightning, but here, the massive edge in goaltending and the fact Chicago was essentially playing 3 lines and 2 pairs in 2010, makes this a more decisive win for Tampa.

This is basically how I view it. I'd feel better about the Bolts goaltending edge against the 2010 Hawks than 2013 ones.

In fact, I think Tampa has the best high end talent and Chicago the best depth of any of the last 16 champions when factoring how both were spread out throughout the roster.

I'm biased obviously, but 2013 should have won, no question. The side by side of the playoff point totals makes the Lightning look better but that Hawk team rolled through the season (playing only Western Conference teams at a time that the west was a lot stronger) and only lost one more playoff game, they were just more defensive (and faced more defensive teams) so it was lower scoring series. Really tough road to with LA and Boston proven cup champs, and even Detroit had a lot of cup winners from five years prior still. Tampa got super easy draws with the Islanders and Dallas in the Conference Finals and SCF.

Ya I agree with you here. I thought 2013 should have won, 2010 is a tougher call.

Part of me is glad 2013 lost because we would have ended up with CHI vs CHI in the semis, but I really thought they would win the whole thing. When I saw the seeding, I figured we were heading for CHI 2013 vs DET 2008 final. But hey, that's the magic of brackets.

Tampa 2020 is one of four teams in this bracket that didn't have a weakness by talent or performance.

And it looks like they're set for a matchup with one of - almost certainly the BEST of - the others next round.

Tampa never played a team as good as the 2010 Hawks whereas the Hawks had to play and beat a lot of great teams. Hawks in 6

I like the Hawks by the narrowest of margins. Can't fault anyone for picking the Bolts here though.

Funny how the 20 Bolts beat the 13 Hawks yet are losing to the 2010 version. If we were to beat one and lose to the other, I think it would be the reverse.

It should be.

As a Blackhawks doesn't make sense to me that a team already voted better than the 2013 team would be voted worse than the 2010 team, especially if you're going by playoff performance.

But that's democracy for you
