Giroux has 5 more years left at $8.5M AAV and Pacioretty has 2 more years left at $4.5M AAV. Habs add Beaulieu, Mete, 1st.

Interested in hearing from Flyer fans. Do you feel deep enough at center with some younger players that you can trade Giroux or is he a guy that is untouchable unless the deal is too good to be true? I would prefer not to trade Patch but he's a guy who is a 30+ goal scorer and you got to give to get.

No, we are not deep enough at center to trade Giroux without another 1C coming back.

with a change of scenery and ditching the C, G could be, should be, a point a game scorer again ..... biggest mistake the Flyers made was giving him the captaincy, really affected his play

If it's weighing on him that heavily, we can just take the C away and let him play 1C in Philly, where we also desperately need to keep our centers for depth.

If I am Montreal there is NO WAY I do this.

Giroux has to be one of the most overrated players in the NHL.

He had 86 points and was third in MVP voting in the second season after he was made captain.

I do it from a Habs POV, granted that Radulove is re-signed. Yes Pax scores but it's obvious all we will ever see is post season turdness out of him. On top of that Giroux would be a 1B kind of C and it would provide some flexibility to play Galchenyuk on the wing full-time. This move would round out the Habs roster imo, right now Danault is the #1C...

Beaulieu is terrible at this point, hopefully he still has value around the league but he's very close to being a complete bust. Brain-dead decision making, terrible muffin shot, no strength, and even looks slow when he was supposed to be fast...He's like a Del Zotto lite when Del Zotto was known as Delsaster.

Not sure how this is brutal for MTL?

Pacioretty is a scorer, sure. But that's all he is. Not a captain, not really a game changer in my opinion. Giroux is though.

Only thing here is the salary. Patches is paid like a scorer but hes been given a lot more that he cant handle from teams perspective. Beaulieu and 1st does nothing here. Philly is stacked with D prospects and late 1st isnt changing much here.

I get why both doesnt do this as MTL has enough cap problems with that GREAT trade for Weber but from Phillys side I get how they would turn this down.

Yup, bad trade for both teams.

Flyers need to rebuild and shed salary.
Montreal needs a C upgrade to Galchenyuk.

Galchenyuk + 2018 2nd (MTL/CHI/WSH)
for
Giroux @ 7.500 (0.750 retained)

Say what you will about Giroux's decline, but there's a few things to consider first.
1. No other 1C is available
2. Montreal doesn't have one in the farm
3. Galchenyuk isn't getting it done, and they need a change while their (Montreal's) window is open
4. He's a big upgrade to Galchenyuk, and could very well be the missing piece Montreal needed to get through NYR this year.

As for Philly, this sheds probably about 3 million off the cap and Giroux isn't part of the core moving forward anyways. Philly needs 2-3 years before they become real contenders, and Giroux probably only has 4-5 years left in the tank anyways. They are better off going with Galchenyuk long term.

Considering I've read that 'No other 1C is available right now' argument at least 4 times, about 4 different players, over the past 2 days...I'm gonna say that might not be true.

If Galchenyuk can't cut it as a 1C, he isnt the base for a Giroux deal. and Certainly not with us retaining.

Mtl finished 15 pts ahead of Phila. YEar before, Phila finished 14 pts ahead. their overall situation is not that different making a Giroux for Galchenyuk deal unlikely. LAst moves: Phila dealt Streit and Mtl loaded on 4th liners and depth dmen. GIroux is still a legit 1c. They might have hit the jackpot with Oscar Lindblom who might jumpstart Giroux.

As of now Galchenyuk aint a 1c, 2c or 3c. On a team desperately needing a c. The system might be to blame imo. He has the pedigree of a 2c at the very least.

1) Wrong
2) So Habs should toss him and a 2nd for a sharply decling asset making 8.5 mill/
3) If Galchenyuk gets traded it won't be for Giroux
4) Gomez was a "big" upgrade as well.

Thanks, but no thanks.

1. Duchene? sure I guess
2. Wrong (7.500 in my proposal)
3. Not your decision and you dont have a Crystal ball, do you?
4. Gomez was only ever an upgrade to blind Habs homers

Bonus:
5. I found your Crystal ball and it says the Habs will never win a cup with their current C depth.
6. have fun golfing and being 1st round knockouts for years to come.

How many cups have Philly won with Giroux? Oh right none. Philly will continue to get all the best tee times since they are not make the PO's.

Bet Giroux has a great golf game though.

Giroux has been declining every season for the last 3-4. His pts are going down, his +/- is going down and he had more PP pts than ES this season. He's more like a 3C at ES. He played a rough style that didn't suit his build and it definitely took it's toll. Not sure why you'd want to trade Pacioretty who's on a sweetheart deal for an overpaid PP specialist. Giroux isn't the guy you want as your 1C at this point.
