Waivers solves nothing when it comes to Darling. Even if the Canes put him on waivers tomorrow at noon, he clears Sunday at noon. Then what? We're stuck with him for this season and three more. He's not going anywhere. We can't buy him out until the summer, so we're stuck with him the rest of the season. The only possibility now is to send him to Charlotte and call up Ned. Then we're in the same position, not wanting to use our backup goalie.

And I'm not holding my breath for RF to trade for a goalie.

We need to face that we're screwed, and we're just going to have to deal with Darling, at least once per back-to-back the rest of the way.
Either way, he needs to be sent down to start a few games. And Nedeljkovic deserves at least one chance since he's steadily been trending up as the Checkers season goes on. Figure out what to do with Darling in the offseason. Just keeping the status quo shouldn't be an option while we're still in the hunt for the playoffs.

Can anybody tell me if darling looked more athletic as a Blackhawk?

Because he looks like the most uncoordinated professional athlete I've ever seen sometimes.

Was his .926 just puck luck and a small sample size?

Sure looks a lot bigger than he did in Chicago.

I think when he discovered NC bbq he definitely didn’t go for the small sample size.

Putting him on waivers allows them to send him to the AHL for as long as they want. Just like Kruger.

Personally I'd prefer giving Ned or Booth a chance. The goalie himself playing bad isn't the only issue. It hurts if the whole team doesn't trust Darling to hold a puck to save his life. At least a green Rookie might invoke a "let's rally around the Rookie" push.

The game in 2005-2006 was a lot different than today though with how everything was called and there were a lot more power plays. Yes scoring is about .3 goals per game away, but that's huge. Also a 22 year old starter vs 29 year old starter is huge. This is supposed to be Darling's prime while Ward was figuring out the NHL game. Darling has been in the league for several years now (his 4th vs Cam's 2nd).

And in every previous season he's put up really really good numbers. His first year as a starter has been shit. So was cam's.

There were at least 26 goalies with 30+ starts that year that had above a .900

I bet if you anonymously polled the team, a plurality if not majority would be in favor of switching things up for a few games. They might not want to see Darling banished forever, but I doubt they are content with his play right about now.

Did he look more athletic? Yes. That's not to say his strong suit was being athletic. He was a scrambler, but not nearly to the level he has been here. I was legitimately excited to have him come here after having watched quite a bit of him the last 2 years. He f***ing sucks now.

I’d sooner take the chance of overworking Ward and wearing him down/having him become injured over playing Darling and praying for a decent performance.

It depends on whether they value the short-term or the long-term. Short-term, you're right, that's the best option for this team to have a shot at the playoffs.

But if Ward re-aggravates his back, that could hurt our chances next year and beyond. But that's assuming that after buying out Darling, they won't have the money to get another decent goaltender and Ward will be the defacto starter for the foreseeable future.

Ward is a UFA. It's no guarantee he comes back anyway.

You could be right, who knows. But at this point comparing him to Cam is not exactly inspiring either.

i'm nitpicking the good years but half of his career was a #1 goalie and parts of the others he had shit for a team. I'd take that over nothing

So Cam put up better stats as a starter at a younger age than Darling has as an older starter? Hmmm...

So? At least Darling will pay the price and have to admit his shame. And maybe it'll break his mind and he leaves for the KHL or something.

I can't wait for DeCock's column. He's going to go off like Mussolini from the balcony.

His whole technique seems to be to throw himself at the puck and his hugeness will absorb the puck, which is like the exact opposite of a goalie like Ward. I can't really speak to how that relates with style of defense the skaters have to play, but it sure seems obvious they don't trust him.

I do worry about his mental state; he was brought in to be the savior and he completely let everyone down. He's making as much money as mcginn and Ryan combined to screw up their shot at the playoffs. There's no way he's liked in that room. I posted a few games ago about how at least with justin peters you got the sense that the team could rally around him and clamp down to help him out. That is not happening here

But he's been a hypocrite once or twice. That negates everything else he says regardless of it being true.
