Should have an answer on that in 16 minutes. Maybe they won't insert a guy into the lineup after a morning skate, but a Checker could be waiting at PNC for the call and substituting out PDG doesn't seem too damaging.

I would be surprised if they deviated from the morning skate for this game. I guess we'll know shortly though.

We could hope, but it won't happen until tomorrow if it does most likely.

Since both Checkers and Canes play tonight and tomorrow, here's what I'd guess:
  • Nobody called up for tonight's game due to timing.
  • Canes win tonight = same line-up as tonight for Saturday's game.
  • Canes lose tonight = someone will be called up for Saturday's game.
Some people posted that a call-up would serve as a "wake-up" call for guys on the team, maybe waiving Kruger will serve that purpose as well. Heck, would be great if it wakes Kruger up, but I'm not counting on it.

I don’t think there is anything to wake up in Krueger. Hands don’t magically appear out of trying harder. He’s scored 1 goal in his last 100 games and it was a clearing pass that hit his stick and went into the net. In the last 2 years he’s physically shot a puck into a net during play in an NHL game as many times as I have.

Not in terms of scoring/hands. He was touted as being a guy that could face tough competition, take a bunch of dzone draws and tilt the ice in the other direction, thus giving Staal a lighter load. That part of his game hasn't materialized here in Carolina.

This homestand reeks of another lost season. I never thought I'd prefer to stay home than sit in the stands, but apparently nine seasons of the same old mind-numbing **** is the tipping point for me.

I have a big 2/15 deadline at work and I'm not even going to try to get tickets until that passes. Maybe they'll show me something this weekend. Until then, I'm just going to watch from the couch with a 12-pack in the fridge that cost me the same money I'd spend on two pints at the arena. At least if the game sucks, I can watch or do something else.

Well, Canes have assigned both to Charlotte so maybe.

Good. At this point, I don't care who's in the bottom six as long as they play with some jam.

Hmmmm. Any chance we can get Lonestar under contract?

Lonestar has a NTC and he's allowed to name 5 teams he'd be willing to trade to. I think we can get this guy though.

I hadn’t realized how low Kruger’s scoring has been the past 2 years. Not many guys even play defense in this league if they can’t throw a puck in the net at least a couple of times a year.

I didn’t watch the guy much in Chicago, but it makes me wonder if he really just doesn’t have the puck skills to consistently play a possession game in this league. It’s one thing when you’re surrounded by talent, when quality players are helping with puck movement and covering up mistakes. But if the guy is physically unable to shoot a puck past a goalie, maybe he just doesn’t have the offensive skill set to tilt the ice on a team like the Canes.

Just 2 cents on maybe why his current play is so incongruent with what he apparently did in Chicago.

His PK hasn’t been good but at even strength he has the lowest off zone start % and is 8th in CF% which is pretty damn good. Just about the same as McGinn who starts most of his shifts in the ozone. I don’t think they realized just how worthless he was offensively.

On the contrary, wasn't there an article this offseason where the org was introducing the idea that he had untapped offensive potential?

It's just really hard to have pure shutdown guys on an offense-starved team. Does the demotion kill the idea of an impending trade with retention? I guess the calls could be coming in after GMs find out that he cleared.

No if anything in recent years it seems that waivers is usually the first step before a trade with retention anymore. Will not be in the least bit surprised if he ends up on say Vegas with us retaining a bit.
