You can focus on various issues - mistakes, goaltending, etc.

As years go by, the fundamental problem with the Caps never changes -- they're a slow-ass team. When it matters, they get put on their heels by elite teams, and then the flaws get exposed.

Physicality can help close the gap a bit, but it's not nearly enough as a solution in modern NHL.

Caps need to be 100% in tune and passing also needs to be at 100% to have a chance to counteract the lack of speed. It's a tall order, and we should be very happy that they were able to put it all together in 2018.

Don't know why Lavi isn't getting the guys off the ice. They got their butts handed to them tonight ... can't fix that with a bunch of words (or punches) after the final horn.

This team has no shot in hell these playoffs. It’s not about the random rough stretch. Even in wins they are getting territorially outplayed, no cup winning team gets hemmed in as much as this one. They lose way too many puck battles for a big, slow team. I have no expectations.

you can’t back down to that chirping after that beating unless you’re a coward. Not saying do anything suspendible after the final whistle but stick up for yourself.

They’re actually not all that physical outside of Wilson and Chara. At least not effectively physical, ie they really don’t separate opponents from the puck all that well on either end of the ice, with a couple exceptions. Not just speed that killed us tonight but we lost 80% of the puck battles.

I'm not worried. Caps were bound to hit a rut at some point again. They will bounce back. It's also not the worst time to lose a couple games with the TDL looming - will really get BMac thinking about adding a piece or two to propel them to another SC run.

In their defense, although the Caps were slower and lost the majority of puck battles, they also were losers in the as-yet-to-be-quantified 'puck luck' metric.

Team needs to get focused on playoff hockey or it's another first round exit. The night was done when Sammie gets a freak injury. Good to regroup against NJ who will be eager to get us.
