For those who are interested in cap situation regarding Kempny possibly going on LTIR:

LTIR FAQ - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

To make it short,

If we put Kempny on LTIR the last day of the pre-season we will be able to have up to $84M of salaries before Michal is back.

That mean, we can start with the following roster:

Ovi-Backy-Wilson
Vrana-Boyd-Oshie
Hagelin-Steph-Panik
Leipsic-Dowd-Hathaway

Kuzy(suspended), Eller (IR), Sgarbossa

Orlov-Gudas
Fehervary-Carlson
Djoos-Jensen

Kempny (LTIR), Lewington

Holtby
Samsonov

+Copley $25K overage if he clears the waivers

Only players we have to place on waivers before game 10 are O'Brien and Copley

Some interesting stats after pre-season games. This time I do not calculate the Awesomeness rating. Sorry for many of you who love it.

Pre season stats and interesting really don't go together. Meaningless is more like it. Sorry.

I watched today and saw Orlov and Jensen together and Gudas with Seigenthaler. I saw Orlov didn't kill penalties at all. I take nothing from that. When the game counts it could be totally different.

For some of these guys the games were opposit from meaningless. Fehervary, Djoos, Siegenthaler, Lewington, Johansen were fighting for a roster spot. And 'when the game counts' will be in AHL for some of them.

When a guy that cares is playing against a guy who is just getting reps in and its meaningless, you trust the results??

Yes. If you use these stats to compare players of the same team. Specially those who were fighting for a spot.

For example, LuJo has completed 0.00 hits. This is not meaningless.

Hits is a weak NHL stat. Lets not use that one. You are not going to be swayed by anything I might say. Moving on then

I have no freaking idea on who to keep and who to send down or trade away. The last few preseason games hasn't answered much really of anything.

And it's going to be a busy week if the Nationals win the Wild Card game on Tuesday between baseball and/or hockey everyday.

So Stephenson > Leipsic
Probably Stephenson > Dowd too
Just from the stats...

I did not watch much but Leipsic and Dowd didn't impress me much.
Boyd doesn't have strong stats either (Kuzy also).

I guess sending Chandler down won't happen

Gersich is weak. Nothing exceptional from him (been telling this from day one).
Djoos actually wasn't active stats-wise other than getting corsi up.
While by eye test Djoos was much more competent offensive playmaker statistically there is little sense to keep him over Fever. Preseason, blabla, sample size, blabla.
Siege at least has some designated role (who said Orlov now doesn't have to PK which is good?) but at the same time Siege could be sent down, and it should be tempting...

Ask yourself, what kind of future for Djoos in Caps do you see?

PS: Also Gudas > Jensen by those stats

I think they can squeeze Leipsic through waivers.

9-33/3
34-3/33

Once Kempny is ready HHOF prospect goes down

If Kempny goes on LTIR, we can have Leipsic, Stephenson, Boyd, Dowd, Hathaway, Djoos, Lewington, Siege, and Fehervary with the team. The only players to sent down are Copley, Gersich, Sgarbossa and O'Brien.

This gives us ten games time to trade Djoos and to make a decision on one forward to place on waivers from Leipsic-Stephenson-Boyd.

This is true. But is he ready to play in two or three weeks?

I saw Vogel and Walton do their two man advantage segment today. They specifically spoke about this and said they thought it was very unlikely that they would use LTIR because he would have to miss 13 games. That he would be ready halfway thru that or less

I am really excited to see what McMichael can bring. Any time a young player takes the huge increases in production before the NHL says a lot to me.
I think he has the mental side and the ability to turn lessons into on ice improvement well, much like Tom Wilson does.

Could be a really good 2nd line centre if not better when all is said and done. I wouldnt bet against him achieving more either.

MF is another who is taking fast steps. Thats where superstars come from who arent no.1-3 picks.

Fever is very fast but is he top-2 D? His passing leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. Could be a nice Niskanen type guy one day. That day wont come during his ELC most probably (no experience for that).

For team construction and salary structure he could be gold though

you put a guy on the top pairing only to send him down?

just put Siegenthaler on the top pairing than or put him on waivers.

Partnering with the Caps 1D doesn't really translate into the team's top pair. The Caps basically have 2 2nd pairs. They have a defensive oriented pair and a more offensive oriented pair. No way that Reirden chooses to use Kempny against the opposing top line.

Where 42 is concerned, that is the spot the Caps used Djoos before Kempny

And Djoos stayed in the lineup until now, where he's probably losing to job to 42, it's the circle of spending to the salary cap
