Actually I changed my vote. I’m going with Matthew Phillips. Give me the tiny man who can play.

Okay, now explain how you're voting for a 25 year old in a prospect poll despite it going against everything you say about aging and primes.

His numbers are good, he was arguably deserving of a spot in Calgary but was blocked by a dinosaur of a coach, they brought in his AHL coach so he should get a legit chance at least, and the rest of Washington’s prospects kind of stink?

And Chesley’s just… not on the list anymore? What about him stinks more than a 25 year old AHLer who isn’t blowing the doors off the league enough to merit your upscaling?

I want the guy to do well but in a prospect ranking this is perfect proof that you’re just f***ing around here

Why do I have to believe Kenny Chesney is going to be any good? He wasn’t very good this year in college. Where does all of this confidence in him come from?

Even if you don't, I still think you need to do something more to justify picking a 25 year old this high given your theories on peaks and selling high other than "good numbers". Is he really even the best choice by NHLe?

I think it's a troll pick just to do it, personally, and you're not establishing any good faith by mocking the dominant vote getter with nothing to back this stuff up when asked.

Most (all?) of the NHLe models stop tracking after 3 years post-draft. In his D+3 year Phillips had a better chance of becoming a star and an NHL regular than Chesley does now in his D+1 year.

Yes I realize Phillips is now in his D+7 year and that he’d have to follow a pretty odd path to make it to the NHL. No I don’t care because I think all evidence points to him being given a legitimate shot to prove himself in DC while he didn’t have that same opportunity in Calgary. That uncertainty in NHL outcome combined with his AHL prowess at least elevates him above some of the lower ceiling guys in the Capitals system like Chesley. It’s not like I’m putting him above Leonard, Miroshnichenko, or even Iorio.

If Phillips gets an opportunity and shows he’s not up to snuff I’ll be glad to drop him in next year’s rankings.
