just in theory, to avoid cap issues, could a team trade the rights to a player, like Richards in TB, to another team, say the penguins, but then have the Pens "loan" that player back to TB? This way a team like pittsburgh would be on the hook for the cap, which they can handle for now, but the player still plays with the existing team, and in exchange, TB sends a pick to the pens for their troubles.
minor league teams loan players all the time. can this be done within the NHL?
