Still can't fathom why Tocchet at times plays 'mind-games' with certain players....and Hoglander seems to be one of his favorites.

The reason the Canucks aren't scoring has very little to do with Hoglander. As for PDG, he isn't likely to score a goal no matter how games he plays.

Maybe the coach figures that calling out Hoglander will somehow motivate him.....but the Canucks problems in these playoffs have very little to do with a kid like Hoglander. It's their defense, which is just being caved in right now.

Are we watching the same games?

I've watched every game, and the fact is the Canucks have been badly outplayed at times in both series. They were force to come back in the third period twice to win against the Preds and trailed 4-1 early on in game one against Edmonton.

The Canucks have played from behind consistently, and are close to setting a dubious NHL record for the least recorded shots in the Cup playoffs.

The last time I looked that hardly falls on Hoglander. As far their entire forward group other than Boeser, the well has gone dry.

should target tyler bertuzzi. size speed and can play net presence. thats IF joshsua leaves. and goes for money elsewhere

Assuming we don't get Guenztal, I'd target Bertuzzi regardless. There's a decent chance in signs at 5 or thereabouts on a longer term deal. If I recall, term is what he really wanted but no one offered it. Hence the one year Leaf deal.

Putting him with Miller or Pettersson could do wonders for another Joshua like player in our lineup.

I wonder if Colton and Whitecloud could be had for a couple 2nds or 3rds. Vegas needs to clear a defenseman and Colton is 100% a cap casualty so they can sign Mittlestadt.

This is where a potential Hronek trade could come handy although I don’t mind using our 2025-2027 2nds or 3rds to get them.

Some other cap casualties include:

Cirelli
Raddysh
Paul
Hague
Theodore
Hartman
Middleton
Laughton
Couturier
Farabee
Pageau
Pulock
Pelech
Lindgren
Chytil
Chychrun
Zub
Batherson
Strome
Wilson
Dowd

id take laughton as 3rd C if blueger leaves. shows more offensive skills and can score. or chandler stephanson.. hopefully van finds another RHC if lindholm bolts. bottom lines get 2 righties. balance it out. time to search for petterson a winger this offseason. forget jake guenztel lots of suitors will be interested in getting him.

The only problem with huge defenders is they tend to be slow mobility wise in some situations. Starting to get exposed, we can't get out to the permitter to make checks and then we just let them set up.
But little guys can't check if they do get out there and can't box out in front of the net either. It is the system that keeps the big guys in the middle of the ice, the high danger scoring areas, the slot.
Still can't fathom why Tocchet at times plays 'mind-games' with certain players....and Hoglander seems to be one of his favorites.

The Canuck problems this playoffs? Really? Winning is a problem? So far 6 wins and 3 losses is bad?
The GA is pretty much the best of all the teams in the playoffs, that is bad?

But they won right? Ever hear of The Rumble in the Jungle? Rope a Dope?
This reduction in scoring started right around the allstar break. I posted then it might be a change in the system.
The Oilers have, without a doubt, two of the top 5 players in the world and are losing. And you have issues with the Canucks winning?
IMO these playoffs are winnowing out the players to keep and the wee one's that are not doing well. The Canucks have one of the biggest defences in the playoffs and are winning. WINNING.

Bertuzzi is too expensive and playing on a reputation, Guenztal is too old and will be too expensive for a long term contract.
No more retirement contracts here please.

But maybe revisiting Pettersson trade ideas might not be a bad idea. He will still reap a harvest.
Getting a lot of confidence in Rutherford/Allvin.

I like Hoglander a lot. Maybe he just needs more experience for playoffs or the system doesn't suit his natural game. But he does attack and is cheap.

Looking at the way Lindholm, Garland and Joshua play together they have taken over the 2nd unit designation IMO relegating Pettersson down to the 3rd line.

I wonder if Hughes can put on 20bs of muscle and still be a water bug out there.

Hronek has been playing "fine" but fine doesn't get you 8M a year. Push comes to shove on that contract situation, I would happily put his 8M a year towards Myers and Tanev.

Potential Hronek trade with Montreal for Wpg 1st, Col 2nd and Justin Barron.

Finding players like Petey is hard and as most will say, the team trading the best player usually loses those trades. Petey isn't his self right now.

Petey is on the edge of that next playoff performers.
Younger players with a higher PPG than Petey (.44) so far. Johnston, Laffy, Jarvis, Byfield, Lundell, Lappierre, Lohrei, Protas, Bouchard, Svechnikov, Hughes, Fehervary.

From his own draft class Makar, Heiskanen, Mittelstadt, Robertson, Vilardi, Necas, Anderson, Luostarinen.

There would be a few less if you took his .50 ppg from first round only, many of those players that were out in the first round.

117 players with .44 or higher PPG so far in the playoffs. 118 including Petey and but only 20 are Petey's age or younger.

Pretty well all of those younger players are also playing with much better players than Hoglander and Mikheyev.

Pettersson has been poor offensively but he's also been unlucky in his linemates. Unquestionably his number would look better with at least one regular top-six player beside him at even strength. I mean, Miller is having a much better playoffs than him, obviously. How would Miller's 5 on 5 numbers look with Mikheyev and Hoglander on his wings? Probably only slightly better than Pettersson's. Mikheyev can't score. Hoglander doesn't even get into position to score. Neither one finds Pettersson with space and in a good scoring position. Pettersson needs to be better, certainly, but he also hasn't exactly been put in a position to pile up the points.

Gotta take a chance with Nuke if the Avs turf his contract.

Avs fans are completely done with Rantanen as well.

The defence other than Hughes who is getting abused, hasn’t shown much in the way of holding onto the puck in order to make a good pass out of the zone. Zadorov occasionally.
The goto play is flip it out so EDM can skate it right back in. Rinse and repeat.

Do you want him knowing that if he relapses again he'll be gone for at least one year and may never play again

I can't imagine any playoff team would want him with anything more than a hugely discounted short-term contract

Does need a better winger, one that has much more potential than Mikky. At least there is still upside to Hoglander.

EvolvingWild's contract projections are out:

Hronek: 4x6.318
Lindholm: 7x7.935
Blueger: 2x1.808
Lafferty: 1x1.116
Joshua: 2x2.049
Myers: 1x2.360
Zadorov: 3x4.001
Cole: 1x2.496
Friedman: 1x0.804
Desmith: 1x1.485
Silovs: 1x0.775

These don't feel particularly accurate to me. especially Joshua, probably because he's been a late bloomer. I'd gladly do all of these deals (in a vacuum) aside from Cole/Lindholm/Desmith

Zadorov and Joshua are steals at that price. Don't see this being too realistic.

Hronek at that price is good, I think zad will need like 6 year term.
silovs at like 8xxk for 2 years would help the cap crunch a lot.

If we are signing Z then I hope we sign Dillon.

Hes just as abrasive as Z but will throw hands more often and also has the size. Would really set us up on the back end for the type of player I like.

Hughes - ?
Soucy - Z
Myers - Dillon
