Well, on a more serious note, I'm actually excited to see how Olson does this year. I'll have season tickets to the Cougars so I'll be able to give a little bit of insight on his game.

Had season tickets last year too - he was already one of the Cougars top defensemen, so he should see the similar deployment and likely even more responsibility.

Cougars have a new coach as well, so this could be a huge boost to build on Olson's good season.

Bachman has signed an extension for 17-18, 2-way $650,000/$450,000.
My research also says this season, 2016-17, his contract is 1-way at $575,000.

Preliminary games in World Cup of Hockey in two weeks. Canucks have a lot of investment in this tournament. It's risky, IMO, to ask guys to compete in tournament hockey right after Summer. For what?

Canucks can benefit if the projected Sedin line gets some early work. It would be disastrous if somebody got hurt. The danger is that somebody from your division cannot resist the chance to run somebody timid and weak. Hopefully the players treat it as an all-star game extension and glide around like old timers.

Was that Kes (it is what it is)?

Remember that being Bertuzzi's thing and then McCann kept it going. Sounds like a Kesler gem though.

No. It was Bertuzzi.

shots shots shots was Bieksa.

the one I'll remember from Kesler: "I did that for you, Farhan. **** you." -Lalji questioned him about a scoring slump. Kes then scored a hat-trick against the Wild that night.

Bert started it, but I think the entire team has said it at some point I couldn't think of a good one, and screwed up who said the other one...

I have tried to explain this on the board. But people still do not understand

What people do not understand is the team could care less about people on the board and the hardcore fans. They do not buy tickets and merchandise. The only people they care about are the ones who have the $$$ to buy those things. Guess what those people are busy earning that money to be posting on a hockey forums . they have no idea who Mackenzie Stewart is for example or how many draft picks the Canucks have in the upcoming draft. Fact #1 Vancouver does not support a loser.( Empty seats ) This is a business that needs to make money and that is demanded by the Family) Fact #2 Vancouver does not watch a loser either. Guess how many hardcore fans there are in Vancouver. 200,000 ( how do I know that) that are the ratings of the local Sportsnet Broadcast. in 2011 easily averaging around 700,000 that is a huge drop off. Sportsnet is not happy. so there is that to consider as well. Vancouver is a event/ need to be seen this a cool thing to do type of town not a hockey town that is a fact. The team also wants to give the Sedins the best chance to win . not ride off into the sunset as a bottom 5 team ... Last but not least. If the Canucks do not make the playoffs. Willie D. is gone - You can take that too the bank. This may come as a shock to a lot of people. But Linden, and Benning really like him ( he is a very very nice man ) and they want him to have the best chance to succeed as well. )

so that is why they are looking for a top 6 forward. Keep in mind as well that is this ( Krieder ) deal is not the only one that they are looking at. Scott Hartnell I am sure is on the table ( my opinion only ) Perhaps a Luca Sbisa would be fair considering Hartnell is 35 and has 3 years left with a cap hit of $4.5 million but perhaps ( my opinion only ) the Blue Jackets want there 2nd round pick back they lost with the hiring of Torts. but maybe the Canucks have said no. so we will see. But I do think in my very humble opinion that Benning has his finger on a few triggers. lets see which one he pulls.

Have a nice weekend everyone. ( Try to be kind in your replies ) remember it is just my opinion.

I heard the reason that nobody wants to trade with Benning is because he wears white socks with black pants.

Wow,guess i have been supporting a loser since Benning has arrived.Empty seats and tv rating will be down, because there is nothing to be excited about this team .Benning is sold on this idea of a meat and potatoes type of team and serves us a plate of salad instead. The idea of giving the Sedins the best chance to win,is very laughable. You may as well trade them now, because we are a bottom 3 team right now.And about Willie,,he will be gone before or after Christmas, bank on it.Question----is this you Jim Benning???

Way to generalize! I used to pay to go to 10-15 Canucks games a year, even did the Cali road trips. Last two years I have been even turning down free tickets at times because the product on the ice is garbage.

I went to at least a dozen games this past season myself. Don't plan on going as many this upcoming season (don't have the option of "free tickets") - for the same reason (on-ice product stinks).

Have we talked about McKenzie Stewart lately?

The last talk I remember about McKenzie Stewart was last summer, and he looked like a NHL player to you... You couldn't wait to prove the naysayers wrong. I'm sure this could be found in your post history. I don't recall much talk about him since...

As far as ownership goes, we could do a lot worse.

The Aquilinis have basically removed any financial impediment to competitive success. They allowed the team to spend to the cap, have probably invested well above the league average in terms of training staff and facilities, the team travels in style (even Mom's and Dad's trips paid for by the team) and they haven't balked at large contracts.

Unlike the Craig McCaw or OTPP previously in Toronto, the Aquilinis also clearly care about the game and desperately want a championship. Unlike Bell / Rogers, MSG/Cablevision or Comcast - media owned teams, the Canucks are not just content for a media empire. Success matters.

You also can't argue that they don't hold the team accountable for competitive success. Dave Nonis and Mike Gillis were both fired for under performing on the ice. They also agree to eat Tortorellas contract to remove him, and likely influenced the Vigneault firing. They have been very clear about 1 thing - you win or you're gone.

About the only thing you could criticize them for is wanting to win every year, possibly at the expense of an earlier rebuild. If rumours are correct, Mike Gillis wanted a rebuild in 2012 but was denied. Last year, Benning hesitated to sell (Hamhuis and Vrbata) until the Canucks were all but mathematically eliminated - this probably came from a strong directive to try and make the playoffs. But we should also understand that Vancouver is not Toronto where a crappy team sells out for 40 years straight. This market demands a wiinner and the Aquilinis know that.

I do fault the Aquilinis for interference with the hiring of John Tortorella. Torts was pretty much the opposite of a Mike Gillis type of hire and the talk of Momma Aquilini sitting in on the interviews is pretty damning.

I also believe last season was a missed opportunity. Benning took way too long to conclude that the team was out of the hunt. He was hoping that the return of Sutter and Hamhuis from injury would make the team turn the corner, but then Edler and Sutter went down again. IMO, it was plainly obvious that the Canucks were not a playoff team by about mid-January. That's when Vrbata should have been showcased with the Sedins and traded, and the conversation with Hamhuis should have started. Hamhuis injury and desire to stay in Vancouver would have still made it difficult to move him, but Vrbata should have at least garnered a high 2nd round pick, possibly a late 1st if he had been showcased with the Sedins more.

So I fault Aquaman for hiring Torts, but after that, if the worst you can say about the owners is that they demand that the team is competitive every year, I'll take that over some of the other ownership situations in the league.
