If Dube was a) a star player or b) injured, that would have likely been a suspension. If he was both it would be twice the games. It's f***ing stupid but that's pretty much how suspensions work in the NHL.

Lee Sweatt's was a beauty- mainly because of some sweet Sediney, but it was a great finish. I remember him retiring like 6 months later to pursue a career in finance. As a 3x all academic, it was probably the correct move in the end. Cool story.

i remember that

Another game where Markstrom will have to stand on his head...first game of a tough six-game roadsie in some really difficult buildings....and of course Green won't get the match-ups he wants. Hopefully the Flames are still in a bit of funk from their pre-season in China. But if the Canucks take seven minors again, it'll be lights out.

Watch the Flames token tough guys try and goon it up tomorrow. I can't imagine they liked losing 5-2, along with the hit on Dube and the Hamonic fight.

It 110% would not of been.
Much more goes into a suspension decision than injury.

Well, yes.

In this case, the fact that it was an illegal hit to the head from a prior offender would have meant it was a suspension if there was an injury.

Does it strike anyone else as odd how agitators in general seem to have a tendency to be deceptively smart, polished, and skilled hockey players who are capable of playing better than you expect? Seems like it happens way more than it does with goons, hitters, or any other kind of specialist.

Kesler, Burrows, and even Matt Cooke at one point were able to step in and play effective, first-line caliber hockey. Lapierre was able step in and look like a high-end shutdown forward. Ruutu, who seemed like a fringe guy, was able to step in as an underrated defensive player and shoot-out specialist, at least for a moment. All of these guys were smart defensive players who had more skill and brains than you thought.

In fact, I can't recall any Canuck agitator who was bad at hockey.

While this is all true, that's kind of the cream of the crop for agitators. For every Cooke or Ruutu, there's a Mike Duco or Rich Clune who couldn't hack it at the NHL level.

I dunno, but in my book a hit which is against the rules (as this one was) is, by definition, not a "clean" hit.

Okay look at it this way. A fight between consenting fighters is against the the rules, but not dirty. But if one of the fighters falls and the other keeps whaling on him, then it is dirty.

The team that overreacts and dresses a "tough guy" after an event like this always loses. Always.

It would be beneficial to troll the Flames and have them more concerned with extra curriculars than actually winning the game.
