That's probably where this deal falls apart. I don't think Holland gives up Broberg or Bouchard along with the 1st. I just don't see that happening, and I can see why Arizona would hold out for that and not settle for a package of lesser pieces, like Samukorov and another prospect.Honestly even better. Russell, next year’s 1st and either Broberg or Bouchard and I’m sold.
Hopefully cooler heads have prevailed.has this trade gone down yet?

If that is the offer the Coyotes should keep OEL. That is terrible value.According to Stauffer $6M is going the other way and Arizona is retaining on OEL. So maybe it's Russell + Chiasson + Pick + Prospect(Not Bouch/Broberg/McLeod) for OEL at ~$7M.
But they're not looking at this as a value-first deal. Ownership primarily want to offload OEL's insane contract to save money in the COVID era (to stay afloat by all accounts), and with Ekman-Larsson's NMC + Hjalmarsson refusing to waive, their hand might be forced. If that is the offer the Coyotes should keep OEL. That is terrible value.
Link? I’d be extremely surprised if AZ retained on OEL. Frankly, if you can provide a link from Stauffer suffering AZ will retain and then they don’t, I think that should destroy his credibility.According to Stauffer $6M is going the other way and Arizona is retaining on OEL. Like any guy with a daily radio show during the off-season, he's doing what he does best--filling air time. Friedman does it, too. He floats ideas based on some of the rumors he hears. Stauffer has a good idea of what the team's cap situation is. There's very little chance the Oilers can fit OEL's entire cap hit on their payroll moving forward without some kind of money going back.Link? I’d be extremely surprised if AZ retained on OEL. Disagree. There have been numerous proposals in his thread I expect the Coyotes would be very willing to entertain. A 1st, a D and some cap (eg. Kassian ) is pretty good value - given the circumstances - for OEL. Not sure he will waive to spend 7 years in Edmonton though despite the connection with Tippett and some Swedish D (not to mention the lure of playing on McDavid's team).I guess Oliver ain't gonna be an Oiler. None of these scenarios make sense to the Coyotes. The state of Nevada isn't going to keep the hotels and casinos locked down forever. Makes more sense to keep OEL and fire the coach.

Teams often don't get value when they are desperate to clear cash. That would be a huge win for Edmonton. If that is the offer the Coyotes should keep OEL. That is terrible value.
Seems like they don't want to fire the coach though.I guess Oliver ain't gonna be an Oiler. None of these scenarios make sense to the Coyotes. The state of Nevada isn't going to keep the hotels and casinos locked down forever. Makes more sense to keep OEL and fire the coach.
I wish they would fire Tocchet. I don't think there's any chance they do that this off-season. So I'm really only pinning my hopes on two things 1) The Coyotes trade a bunch of vets for futures and he just up and quits out of frustration or 2) they AT LEAST go into the season without extending him. Neither seems likely. I think he'll be extended. Which I hate because I think he sucks.Seems like they don't want to fire the coach though.
They can clear cash with moving out other players (stepan, gologoski, demers...) rather than take other teams problem contracts for their captain and #1 D.Teams often don't get value when they are desperate to clear cash. That would be a huge win for Edmonton.

If OEL is traded I am confident they will get a decent return.
I think if they were going to turf Tocchet, they would have done it already.I wish they would fire Tocchet. I don't think there's any chance they do that this off-season. Their new GM is in the middle of his very first media appearance. He just fired the team’s director of amateur scouting and assistant general manager two weeks before the draft. Lol. He hasn’t even had a meeting with Tocchet yet. He just said so.I think if they were going to turf Tocchet, they would have done it already.
Well then I retract my previous statement. I'm assuming somewhat that the owners are the ones wanting to keep him. Does he make below league average for coaches? Remember, if they fire him, they still need to pay him.Their new GM is in the middle of his very first media appearance. Where this breaks down for me is Arizona retaining on OEL, don't see any chance of that happening for the next 7 years. The option of a cap dump (Neal, Kassian) is far more likely as Coyotes would likely try to move one of those players at the TDL or maybe next season....at that point they might retain on 2 years of either of those deals, but not 7 years on OEL.If there is any truth to the rumor the Yotes would retain on OEL for the pieces being discussed here... huge win for Edmonton.
I don't think moving OEL would be about salary this year. It's more next year. OEL is only owed $4M the rest of the season. Stepan, $2M. Goose, $4M. Raanta, $2M. Kessel, $850k.nextI don't know if they will have much luck moving Stepan. Goligoski's modified no trade could really cause problems too, depending on the terms. Add Kessel and Raanta to the list of guys they will have a hard time moving.
Stauffer is a radio guy he tweets a bit, but the majority of the stuff he says will never have a link. Stauffer is far from infallible if your standard is if he's wrong on one thing he has no credibility, then it's been gone for quite some time. As far as Oilers rumors go he's more connected than anyone else in the Edmonton media, but he's got to fill airtime so he bounces some crap against the wall from time to time, often off of nothing more than little tidbits of hearsay, the stuff with legs he circles back to a lot and he's talked about OEL a lot of recent.Link? I’d be extremely surprised if AZ retained on OEL. Frankly, if you can provide a link from Stauffer suffering AZ will retain and then they don’t, I think that should destroy his credibility.
