At this stage in their career, with their respective teams and in their current role I think the answer has to be Schenn. Johanesen has 25 goals in 150 games since he was traded to the Predators. Schenn has 16 goals in 31 games since he was traded to the Blues.

Actually, now that I look at the stats, I didn't realize how awful Johansen is now. He is leading the Predators in Power Play Ice Time with 3:36/game and he has 8 shots and no goals all year!

What's up with Johansen's dip in goal scoring since joining Nashville?

It started his last year in Columbus. The previous 2 years where he scored 33 and 27 goals, he was a power forward body but a sniper. He would look for his shot, rather than to pass, and he would rip in some amazing shots.

He just doesn't look to score anymore. I don't know why. It's not his ability, it's not his skating, its weird. I watch alot of Nashville because I still root for him, but it's crazy how much his game has changed from the 33-27 goal seasons. I think he's trying to be too much like his idol (Joe Thornton) when that's not really his biggest strength.

Schenn is the far better player - Don't understand these poll results.

RyJo is the better centerman and imo all around player.

Schenn is better at providing offence, especially on the PP.

Not really no. Schenn is thriving this year between two elite linemates and very favourable usage at 64% offensive zone starts. Schenn is a good scorer who can put up a lot of points when he's surrounded by good talent and gets favourable usage and PP time. RyJo is the better all around player though.

Adjusting to his linemates. Forsberg, Neal, and Arvidsson are goal-scoring types, Johansen is far better off utilizing his playmaking to make the most of them.

25 goals in 150 games, but you don't mention his 87 assists, good for .75 PPG since joining Nashville. Goals isn't the only way of measuring a player, he's more of a playmaker, or at least he wants to be.

He centers two 60 point wingers while playing some good defense.

Tarasenko hasn't played with Schenn since early-mid November. I've seen every game and its far from Schwartz and Tarasenko carrying the guy. Plus he's been noticeably better than Tarasenko this year.

He's done most of his damage at ES as well. The power play specialist label he was given just isn't accurate.

Its hard to compare the two since they are different kinds of players and do different things well but while RyJo is trending down, Schenn is trending up.

Schenn is the better player right now.

Is Johansen really trending down though? I mean before he got injured he had 9 points in his last 10 games, Schenn has 11 in his last 10 including one 4 point game and a five game streak with no points.

Good to see Schenn thriving in St. Louis as he's upped his games to another level at that. On this very Monday maybe Schenn is better.
I can't help but say Johansen is still better at this point. It is close.

As CBJWenn said, he used to absolutely rip pucks. Like, he should in theory be a 25 goal guy at least, but he's heavily deferred to passing. I also don't find it particularly pleasing that he's tried so much to emulate Thornton. Yes, Johansen is one of the slickest passers in the league, but his shot is lethal and he has the size and power to physically take over games. He has all the qualities.

Appears to be getting back on track after a slow start.

I'd find it a bit easier to rest on the larger body of work Johansen has put together as an NHL center. But the way Schenn has seemingly found his stride in St Louis really brings this into question for me. It's a small sample though, playing with some great players. Schenn was a solid Top-6 winger before this, but i really kinda want to see more sustained success with him in the middle consistently, before i officially swing my vote.

Contracts considered though...that really makes me lean toward Schenn, small sample and all.

Back to back seasons centering 2 30+ goal scoring wingers, I'm guessing he is getting it done. Johansen jobs is to create space, make plays offensively, win faceoffs and play defense, tell me what he's not doing again.

Career wise, Scheen has never scored 60 in a season, the younger Johansen has done it 4 straight, and has one 71 point season.

Not ready to say Schenn just yet. I'm not the biggest RyJo fan, but I need to see Schenn do what he's currently doing over a full season for him to sway my choice.

I'd say they are on par with one another. RyJo would get the nod due to prior success though. Because of that success I find him overrated now
