The Bruins were already getting a power play from Lyubushkin. The Coyle penalty was just a made up offsetting call for Bert because the refs are too cowardly to call the offsetting dive against their buddy Marchand. Bertuzzi knows exactly what he's doing, getting a free shot in when you know the refs aren't going to make it a 5v3.
That’s how I interpreted this sequence as well.

Eh, bit optimistic on Bertuzzi’s real-time decision making and grand strategy, but I do think guys kinda know they aren’t walking away down 5-on-3.

Player embellished a play to try to get a powerplay. This is the first time it's ever happened in the playoffs. Stop the press!
Player with a C on his jersey which gives him the ability to chat with the officials is the guy that embellished.

Has this ever happened?

The minute he went to the officials to even say one word he should have been laughed at told to get to the box.

Unfortunately the refs don’t have the nuts to do it. Probably because the league doesn’t have the nuts to call him out either.

Didn't realize he grabbed the wrong leg, good catch.

Doubt anything comes of it but that was as blatant a dive as it gets

So you saw that he grabbed the correct leg, then went in to this thread and read that he grabbed the wrong leg, and instead of trusting your eyes, you went with the mob?

He's not grabbing the wrong leg.

Of course he did. It's Marchand. It is what it is. You can't out-Marchand, Marchand, and Bertuzzi was foolish to try, Don't take dumb penalties. The rest is just pointless noise.

Anyone remember the outrage over Knies supposed dive last playoffs?

It's a bad look on the league and he should be given a fine - but I know if I was a Bruins fan I wouldn't have issue. Do whatever you can to win.

Considering the referees have proven time and time again how useless they can be at their jobs - why not try? It worked.

He's not grabbing the wrong leg.

Bertuzzi hit him in the back of the right, as he fell he grabbed his left

And even if your right, it doesn't make it any less of a blatant dive, so... Congrats?

Why are there so many people trying to find ways to cast this as a dive?

First, pretending that getting slashed on those unprotected tendons on the back of your leg is going to elicit any reaction other than falling over. Then doubling down and pretending he was slashed on the other leg, which makes zero sense.

Reeks of desperation to have the moral high ground on something. But at the end of the day, what Bertuzzi did is a (albeit minor) cheap shot and Marchand did literally nothing but react naturally to it.

No, he hits him on the left leg. Many people have pointed it out in this thread. Just look closely and you'll see that.
Shhhhhh

Yup

How did Coyle get a penalty on that scrum.
Because the refs favor Boston
