With the recent acquisition of Brent Seabrooke, the St. Louis Blues find themselves over the cap limit by $2 million and must make some moves to get back under. The following players are available for trade. The Blues are unlikely to move all of these players, but likely at least two of them.
D Brad Stuart - TRADED
78 OV rating.
2 years x $2.2 million contract
Stuart is still only 29 years old and has established himself as a rock of an all around d-man, with considerable offensive upside in the years ahead if and when he gets more power play time (likely not until Lidstrom retires). As a former #1 d-man who has surpassed 10+ goals and 40+ points, he’s opted for a more defensive roll on the best top 4 in the NHL with the Wings and as such, his numbers have dropped over the last few years, but his reputation for defensive play and being physical has increased in that same time frame. Perfect #2 d-man to compliment an offensive #1 guy, or as the lead dog on your second defensive unit.

Still one of the elite checking line centers in the league that will undoubtedly have a tremendous DF ratings once again. A key checking line center who can also lead an elite PK unit for your team. It’s no coincidence that the Blues have had one of the best checking lines and PK units in the league since the Blues acquired him several years back.

A pest, versatile, a veteran, physical, nasty and cheap. Jarko is the ultimate physical winger who can play either wing and is an important ingredient for any competitive team.
G Mattieu Garon

2 years x $1.25 million
A solid NHL goalie who is the perfect back-up or even a 1A on a re-building team. Having signed as the back-up in Columbus behind the ever brittle Steve Mason, Garon may get more playing time than anticipated if Mason suffers the same sophomore slump most young goalies seem to be running into over the last few years. Either way, he is a solid veteran goalie with a solid rating.
Of note, the Blues might also consider moving Ray Emery instead of Garon if the right offer were to be made, but it would have to be substantial given Emery’s status as the #1 goalie on a loaded Philadelphia Flyers squad.
All offers should be focused on youth, prospects and picks while addressing the Blues need to reduce salary.
