This is the moment the shot is being released. Girard's stick is halfway through his downswing into the puck in this image. Soderberg has yet to obstruct Allen's view of the puck in any way.



Allen wasn't screened when he was setting up for the shot, and he definitely should have known the shot was coming, so he should have had a fighting chance at saving it. The last second screen just prevented him from tracking it. That definitely matters, especially with a goalie who doesn't rely on/excel at positional saves.

I don't think anyone needs to be blamed for the goal, honestly. A different goalie may have saved it, but I don't think this one was a bad goal.
