Colorado had a 24% PP that is a far cry from 30+.

They are a weird team in a lot of ways too, 7 20 goal scorers but no 40 goal scorers for example.

They were +33 5v5, while giving up more hdc than they created, and they got 41 more PPO than the opponents (17.3% more).

I have no idea why hockey reference says this, and nhl.com says that.

Edit - OIC you sorted playoff numbers, i was looking at RS numbers. Yes, they did better in the playoffs.

Not sure why RS PP numbers would matter in the playoffs. ;)

An elite PK is more reliable, you never know what the refs will and won't call.

If you average 3 penalties called per game:

Do you prefer to score 1 goal per game

or

Do you prefer to allow 1 goal every 3 games?

That's not a fair question....

Colorado had an elite PP (+30%) and an average PK (80ish).
Vegas didn't really have a good PP or PK last year.

I voted PP, but with no deep analysis on it. I just figured I'd take my chances with PK as most teams around going to be able to kill 80% of them.....so if I have an elite PP, perhaps I can snag a goal here or there and hope to kill all the PKs. Reality is it probably balances out and depends on how many penalties are called.

I suppose, but that's not quite the way I'd look at it. If the question was "would you prefer to have the best PP in the league and the worst PK" or "the best PK and the worst PP" - with that question you are looking at scoring 1 goal per game and giving up 1 goal per game or scoring 1 goal every 3 games and giving up 1 goal every 3 games.....

If you have elite PP and average PK or elite PK and average PP, I think you end up basically at the same goal differential with either option.
