Will be doing a bunch of polls on this topic, don't know how many but at least a top 10.

Consider everything from speed, acceleration, edgework, lateral movement, backwards skating ability, agility, etc.

Yes, I know McDavid will probably win this one. But still gotta do it so I can do 2-10 which I suspect will be a more interesting discussion.

If I miss a player in the poll options you think is noteworthy, Let me know! There are a lot of great skaters in the league today.

Overall? Makar. Let’s not pretend we didn’t see Mcdavid skate backwards like he’s me during that figure 8 transition leg of the skills competition or any time he’s accidentally found himself skating backwards.

He won't be one of the top top choices but I'd add Roope Hintz soon. Matt Duchene is also still a very gifted skater

EDIT: Oops, didn't realize Hintz was there my bad

Hintz is on the poll already.

Will consider adding Duchene in next rounds. We'll see, depends on who else people would want added to the polls in the upcoming rounds.

McDavid add Stutzle.
Too bad Formenton is gone, I would have been curious to see where he lands

Jake Sanderson has incredible skating too

Back when Chabot was entering the league I recall there was a lot of praise for his skating so it's interesting to see 2 different answers for Ottawa and neither being him. Ig Ottawa has a few great skaters. Chychrun is pretty good too.

Chabot doesn’t seem quite as explosive as he once was. Still a beautiful skater but too early for him.

Sanderson would be right there with Stutzle for me.

Chychrun below all three IMO.

It has to be Makar or Q. Hughes all things considered. Technically speaking, defensemen are simply better skaters than forwards. I voted Makar in a vacuum, but if we are bringing positional needs into the equation, then obviously McDavid (same as with any forward) doesn't have to be fantastic backwards or lateral skater. In that sense he's the best.

Formenton (he was easily one of the best skaters in the league)
...
Sanderson (same fluid effortless stride as Chabot but even better, the guy can literally be all over the ice)
Joseph (impressive bursts of speed, a rocket at times)
Stutzle (incredible edge work but still needs a lot more strentgh)
Chabot (had a lot of injuries but still a very smooth skater, he was never among the league Elite IMO)
...
Chychrun (great but not in the same tiers as the guys above IMO)

Stutzle just turned 22 y/o, he still needs to add strength because poor balance limits his game (even if it draws penalties) and once he does that, he'll be among the Elite but I wouldn't rank him in the current poll because of this. Imagine if he would be harder to knock down, still drawing ton of penalties but keeping possession of the puck to add even more scoring chances

Woah, sens with three skaters here. Proof that just because you can skate, doesn’t mean you can play hockey :sarcasm:

$1M question, I gotta go with the $1M winner

Watching McDavid skate with or without the puck is like watching Roger Federer play tennis. So majestic
