If you could pick any Past or Present Leafs in the last 25 years, what would your team look like?

Clark L Gilmour C Kessel R
Roberts L Sundin C Mogilny R
Andreychuk L Nieuwendyk C Thomas R
JVR L Tucker C Gartner R

Iafrate Ellett
Mccabe Kaberle
Gill Phaneuf

Joseph
Belfour

This would be my picks. There are some players on the team currently that are close or on the way (Kadri, Rielly, Gartner).

I would rather have Kessel playing with Roberts and Sundin. Since he's offensive type, putting him on that line will make more sense. Clark and Gilmour, in contrast, will be taking on top lines and Mogilny makes a lot more sense despite his chemistry with Mats.

The rest seems fine. Phaneuf on the third pairing would be outright godly.

That Gill, is that Hal or Todd? Either way, he shouldn't be anywhere near the top 6 D of the last 25 years.

I'd have Andreychuk as the top LW. Not sure where Iafrate would be in my top 6, if at all.

Roberts - Sundin - Phil
Clark - Gilmour - O. Nolan
Andreychuk - Nieuwendyk - Mogilny
Kulie - Winnik - Tucker
Antropov

Leetch - Phaneuf
Kaberle - McCabe
Rielly - Yushkevich
Klee

Eddie
Bernier

And yet they still probably couldn't win a playoff series

Edit - Kulie for Poni

lol Ken Klee was the biggest plug. Danny Markov all day over Klee.

Also why do people bring up Leetch? he had a cup of coffee with the Leafs.

It kinda just highlights how weak the Leafs have been on D since..... forever.... Also you want Klee on the ice if the game goes to OT

Am I allowed to assume that the players are considered to be in their primes?

Roberts-Sundin-Mogilny
Clark-Gilmour-Andreychuk
JVR-Niewendyk-Kessel
Tucker-Korolev(RIP)-Thomas
Domi

Size, scoring, and grit throughout the line up.

I thought Ignor Korolev gets under rated around here.

Leetch-Phaneuf
Kaberle-McCabe
Markov-Yuskevitch
Rielly (<3)

Belfour
Joseph

How sad is it that the best team we could ice in the past 25 years would probably be worse than the 2002 cup winning Red Wings?

Really saw this poor management at the alumni games during the winter classic.

A lot of these guys are too slow for the post-Dead-Puck era.

Sundin would look lost out there.

Gilmour would be a good pick. Not sure about Francis or Andreychuk.

Mike Gartner would be a great option.

Tie Domi is a big no.

Since I assume we're talking about these players in their prime whether or not it was on the Leafs, I would suggest Giguère as a goalie option, certainly worth consideration with Curtis Joseph and Eddie Belfour.

Wendel Clark I think would make the team.

Leetch I feel would too.

Would agree on Nieuwendyk. Bryan Berard. I think Paul Ranger would be a good option too, again, assuming prime years prior to his early "retirement".

Mogilny would make it.

I'll tentatively agree on Iafrate, though again, not sold on the foot-speed. Curious what today's composite-stick technology could do for his laserbeam.

Kessel would make it since he wouldn't be a marquis player and could be a 2nd/3rd line guy.

JVR likely makes it. Like Rielly as well. Probably Phaneuf makes the bottom pairing.

A definitive no to Kaberle and McCabe. Both too slow.

Can't think of many others beyond that...

Are you serious? Sundin had great wheels in his 20s and was just fine in the later part of his career. Maybe post 05 lockout Sundin lost a step but I really don't think a prime Sundin would be lost today. In the mid 90s he was dangling and blowing by top pairing dmen on a regular basis.

Clark however would be a 4th liner in today's NHL.

He once went to the hospital during a game after blocking a shot with his calf, and he returned for the 3rd period of the same game!

lol i take it you never seen a lot of these guys.
Sundin was a great skater for a big guy

Cujo and Belfour were both top 5 goalies for a decade so safe to say either of them would of made this team

Kabs was a decent skater and Caber had some pretty good years 3rd in Norris voting 1 year's not bad

Leetch although for the short time he was with the leafs was still really good but i have a hard time putting him on the team for that little of time . That said though he was a top 3 d for at least 5 years in the nhl.

Francis with the leafs was pretty much the end but a top tier player for much of his career.

Iafrate was a great skater until the injuries destroyed him

If u pick JVR then you have to take the better version of him in Andreychuk

Mogilny with the leafs was at the end but super star before he got here

Not sure why u brought up Tie Domi , if it's whether he could play now a days , sure he could but i wouldn't put him on a leafs all star team

Rielly maybe in the future but at this stage he's nowhere close to an all star team

Phaneuf is probably behind McCabe

Ranger ? doubt his best year would make the top 20 best leafs d in the last 25 yrs. If you're taking a best Tampa d Kubina was much better.

loved Berard but more on the potential he had and never hit

hard to say how Clark would be in today's no hitter game. there's certainly no player like him in the game today

How could you put Andreychuk on the 3rd line, he put up 50 plus goals with Gilmour.
