...if you were a PA member, would you rather have a linkage cap at say, 55% or a hard cap at $42.5M.

Don't take anything else into consideration (UFA age, EL system, etc.).

That's the problem - the players kept talking partnership, but rebuffed linkage because they wanted no part of the risk....

Before the lockout, linkage would have made more sense, because hockey revenues would probably still grow, although not that much, enough to increase the cap. Due to the lockout and shortened season, definitely hard cap at 42.5 The players are never going to see that much money again.
