Makes sense. Seems like he's been a factor and they've liked his game even if the results aren't there. Ferland probably injured, and they don't trust McGrattan anymore, so they needed another winger.

For what reason do the Flames need to trade him?

He's not going to return more than what his draft position was.
His intrinsic value is much higher to the Calgary organization than to the rest of the League.

And last but not least, he's basically Backlund 2.0 in terms of his development path. It will come around full-circle.

One could argue every roster player is being showcased nigh-in and night-out. That is one of the facets of this sport as a business. It doesn't mean they will be traded.
