I'll just go ahead and take Milan Lucic, LW

I feel Lucic is underrated because people judge him on the wrong things. For a 6 years period, Milan Lucic was one of the most intimidating and aggressive Top-Sixer in hockey history, and probably the best in that regard since Eric Lindros. How many players in the history of the game had such a 6-year stretch? If we had a "VsX-like metric" for intimidation, physicality and aggressiveness (excluding mere 4th liner), Lucic's score would probably be Top 10 of all-time.

Unsurprisingly, Lucic is pretty much done now. He's not the player he once was and the reason why should be obvious.

At least you don't get his ugly salary along with him.

After Woodcroft atttempted to use Morenz as the net front presence, refused to use Balderis on the PP cuz his english was not good enough, and has a punchable face, Algerie has decided to fire his ass into the desert. Algerie will find a replacement later

The Railers use its last pick to invite the all-time great winger Vsevolod Bobrov to training camp. In the 1950's he was a two-time world champion (Top Goal Scorer in 1954, Top Forward in 1956) and Olympic gold medalist whom Rocket Richard saw play and said: "Bobrov is an outstanding individual and a great player. I consider him being one of the ten best players in hockey history." While lofty praise in the extreme, no doubt Maurice was impressed by the talent he saw. As were many others. The IIHF-hall-of-fame-inducted seven-time Soviet champion averaged nearly two goals a game over his career as well as scored 91 goals in 57 international games, renowned for his hard work in training and persistent effort on every shift (qualities that will serve him well competing for ice time as a late round selection). He has long since passed away but his name remains in discussions of the greatest Russian ice hockey players ever.

... a masterful player both technically and tactically...

I'd say the Boucher bio is ridiculously long, but we live in an age where this 2000+ post thread is not considered too long, so,... so be it!

I separated the bio into two parts: One general (all-star teams, general quotes, obituary and the likes) and the game description made in chronological order for someone who might want to get a better feel of Boucher's career in the future.

I'm not expecting people to read it all unless really interested. This is why the first part will suffice for someone who wants an overview.I will also include a capsule summary in the first part for an even shorter presentation.

I'm just not done yet, still more articles to transcript, especially in the general bio (Part I), and some organizing to do too, but only so many hours in a day.

If everybody did like me for one or two players a year, we'd already have almost everything available here on hfboards instead of having to pay for subcriptions or time-consummingly dig into many newspapers date by date.

I agree with seventieslord on this, I just dump every info I could find about George Boucher here, then people who want to know more can check it.I make it available all in one place, organized in chronological order.

I'll take Billy Burch. I want to dig more into his career
Billy Burch is one of a half dozen guys I've encountered who are so often talked about in hockey history books but so little discussed around here. Not sexy enough stats? i dunno.

I think an all-time draft without Dick Irvin, Billy Burch, Frank McGee and [undrafted] ain't a (respectable) all-time draft! (Note: My first three picks in MLD 2018 are a slam-dunk, and none are coaches or goalies, the two positions most glaring in their absence. Maybe next year....

The Boucher bio is pretty much done, I re-posted it in two parts with some extra stuff in the last page of the Bio Thread.I wish I could have done every single game of his career (or at least his prime), but I ran out of time, access to material and energy to do it.I covered a lot of ground, so someone else can fill the gaps in later years.I suggest taking the free trial from newspapers.com and look into the Ottawa Journal if anyone ever wants to complete this task.

The Gerard bio should be done within a day or two.

Dennis Hull...quite a storyteller. He had some great stories of the Blackhawks-Canadiens rivalry in his book.

  • Maurice Richard, after he was retired, used to go to every game and sit in his regular seat over the exit to the dressing rooms. He liked to taunt Bobby Hull and the other stars. "Hey Bobby, one day you'll be fat and ugly like me."
  • Henri Richard and Stan Mikita absolutely hated each other and were always hacking, spearing, or doing whatever they could to each other when they played against each other, which was very frequently. Maurice would yell at Mikita from his seat and Mikita would go right back at him.
  • One game at the end of a period, Mikita and Maurice were going at each other as Mikita left the ice. Mikita reached his stick into the stands and tipped Maurice's beer all over him.
  • On the ice, Henri would always tell Dennis "My brudder is bedder than your brudder" and Dennis would of course tell him that Bobby was better.

Hitch I recall from his Blazers days as a defensive coach. From my hometown Kamloops he went on to prove it at the NHL level:

Eleven times his teams have been top-4 in defense!:thumbu:
Five great years in Dallas and 5 great years in St. Louis in terms of team standings.
Not much for offense (1998, PP in 2004, scoring in 2014 and 2015), but defense wins championships and he indeed did.

Dallas Years
Team Points - 1st(1998), 1st(1999), 2nd(1997), 5th(2000), 5th(2001)

Offense - 3rd(1998)
Defense - 1st(1999), 2nd(1998), 2nd(2001), 3rd(1997), 3rd(2000), 4th(2018)

Power Play - 1st(1998), 6th(1999), 6th(2001)
Penalty Kill - 1st(2000), 2nd(1998), 4th(2018), 4th(2001), 6th(1999)

Philadelphia Years

Defense - 1st(2003)

Power Play - 2nd(2004)

Columbus Years

St. Louis Years
Team Points - 2nd(2012), 3rd(2015), 3rd(2016), 4th(2014), 6th(2013)

Offense - 5th(2015), 6th(2014)

He certainly has enjoyed a fair stretch getting the honour as assistant on Team Canada, with a great championship percentage while there. I dont know how much he had to do with their smothering defence the last couple of times, but on surface it seems to be Hitchcock style.

Wasn't he an offensive coach in junior?

I remember him saying he tried to bring that same style to Dallas in his 1st year.... then laughing at how badly it went, and decided that he should focus on defense instead.

Hitch has always been a coach that focuses on turnovers and being quick on the transition game. Yeah, the veterans in Dallas were slow at the backend and played clutch and grab as much as any other team in the Dead Puck Era, but the more mobile St. Louis Blues in the new NHL still had that same quickness of attack from the top of the circle to the opposition's blueline. Hitch wants a winger up high, one down low and a defenseman able to get the green light to go when they recover the rubber.

Sorry for the delay. With their final selection Kenora selects Neal Broten, C

Broten is a good PKer (average of best 7 years was 57% usage on teams 5% better than league average), responsible defensively, and a decent ES scorer.

I am co-GMing with papershoes, if I want to quote his roster post and make some changes like insert a table and link bios how can I do that and send it back to him for editing? Under the old site I would have just PM'd him, because when you would reply to a PM it would auto-quote and you'd get all the text with any formatting, but it doesn't look like it works that way anymore. Any suggestions?

Otherwise I guess I could just post in the roster thread and ask a mod to edit papershoes' post and then delete mine.

How do i link player names with their bios on my roster page?

Highlight the player name on your roster post, hit the link button (6th one to the right of the Bold button) and then insert the URL from your bio post. You can get the URL by clicking the post number in the bottom right hand corner of your bio post
