Most importantly, I would like to thanks the following GM's:

Transplanted Caper, Camper Jr., VancityLuongo, GodBlessCanada, DoMakc, Canadiens Fan, Jungosi, Nalyd Psycho, Reds4life, Sturminator, Papershoes, Zamboni Mania, Kyle McMahon, Hockey Outsider, Shawnmullin, Pitseleh, VanIslander, Spitfire11, Arrbez, Evil Speaker, Seventieslord, Champagne Wishes, Nik Jr. and Hedberg

Each of them took the time to vote on the first round playoff results. I never thought 25 GM's would vote in this round.

---------------------

I will write some mini-resume for each series. Might take another couple of hours, so results will come sporadically. Use the refresh button at will during the next couple of hours!

Toronto Maple Leafs: 2 - Regina Pats: 4
Regina Pats: 4 - Toronto Maple Leafs: 2

The Regina Pats (2) defeats The Toronto Maple Leafs (7) in 5 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Jean Béliveau - Toronto Maple Leafs
2: Guy Lafleur - Regina Pats
3: Turk Broda - Toronto Maple Leafs

Series Recap:

- While losing in an expedite way, the ''brio'' of Jean Béliveau was noticeable to many. Gros Bill played very well on a line that unfortunately didn't meshed well. Scoring 4 goals in the series, he was the main, if not only, offensive force for the Leafs.

- The first line of Joliat-Sittler-Lafleur clicked will together in this series. the rough-and-tumble Aurel Joliat score many rebound goals of shots of Guy Lafleur.

- Both goaltender played good in this series. While Broda was more noticeable, receiving 50 more shots than Benedict in this series, Clint made the few saves he had to do.

- Tommy Phillips was fabulous alongside Norm Ullman. Both of them played better than expected, and were one of the main reason why the Pats advanced in the second round in only 5 games. Even with the defensive depth of the Leafs, both of them were able to score two goals each.

--------------------------------------------------------

The Lada Togliatti (3) vs. The Montreal Canadiens (6)

Game Results:

Lada Togliatti: 6 - Montreal Canadiens: 5 OT

Lada Togliatti: 2 - Montreal Canadiens: 3
Montreal Canadiens: 1 - Lada Togliatti: 5

The Lada Togliatti (3) defeats The Montreal Canadiens (6) in 6 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Bobby Orr - Montreal Canadiens
2: Stan Mikita - Lada Togliatti
3: Jean Ratelle - Lada Togliatti

Series Recap:

- It seems they were only two gladiators on the ice for this series: Bobby Orr and Stan Mikita. In a epic battle that went on in all 6 games, both were always together: skating, chasing, fighting, throwing shoulders and elbows around. It was beautiful to see, a true spectacle.

- While both goaltenders are known to be able to stole games on their own, Ed Belfour and Gerry Cheevers played good all series, while never stoling the shows. Both made the saves they had to do.

- Jean Ratelle was particularly efficient on a line with Brian Sutter and Cecil Dillon. He scored some key goals, especially in game 4 where he scored the first goal of the game with three minutes to go in the game from a beautiful tape-to-tape pass from captain Eddie Gerard.

The Trail Smoke Eaters (4) vs. Killarney Country Bears Jamboree (5)

Game Results:

Trail Smoke Eaters: 2 - The Killarney Country Bears Jamboree: 3 OT
Trail Smoke Eaters: 4 - The Killarney Country Bears Jamboree: 1

The Killarney Country Bears Jamboree: 1 - Trail Smoke Eaters: 2 OT
Trail Smoke Eaters: 3 - The Killarney Country Bears Jamboree: 2 3OT

The Trail Smoke Eaters (4) defeats The Killarney Country Bears Jamboree (5) in 7 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Terry Sawchuk - Trail Smoke Eaters
2: Milt Schmidt - Killarney Country Bears Jamboree
3: Mike Bossy - Trail Smoke Eaters

Series Recap:

- One of the toughest series ever fought on the All-Time Draft battle ground. Five games went into overtime, while deciding games took 3 overtime periods to settle a winner.

- While the Trail Smoke Eaters was often beaten by a team that had a better offensive and defensive corps, the Trail could count one one of the hottest goaltender in the league in Terry Sawchuk. He was head and shoulders the most valuable player in this series. In game seven, Sawchuk made some tremendous saves to keep his team alive. In the second overtime periods, he stopped two breakaways in less than a minute; a beautiful kick save against Howie Morenz, and a breathtaking glove save on a shot of Punch Broadbent

- The duo of Serge Savard-Harry Cameron was phenomenal all series long. Surprisingly, Savard showed his offensive abilities quite a lot in this series, especially on the Powerplay, while Cameron showed he could play a sound defensive game.

- In one of the most ferocious fight in this first round of playoffs, René Robert and Harry Westwick went at it at the start of game 7. The two tenacious pugilist fought for almost two minutes, before the right hook of Robert put Westwick to the ground.

Team Soviet Union: 2 - Thunder Bay Twins: 1
The Thunder Bay Twins: 5 - Team Soviet Union: 2
Team Soviet Union: 1 - Thunder Bay Twins: 2 2OT

The Thunder Bay Twins (2) defeats Team Soviet Union (7) in 6 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Niklas Lidstrom - Thunder Bay Twins
Co-2: Ken Dryden - Thunder Bay Twins
Co-2: Vladislav Tretiak - Soviet Union

Series Recap:

- The story of this series was the duo of Lidstrom-Pronger, who were able to control the offensive potent first line of Dumart-Apps-Bure. Niklas Lidstrom, particularly, was a force on both end of the ice, often the only player on the ice who could control Pavel Bure.

- Another sory was the strong performances of both goaltenders, Ken Dryden and Vladislav Tretiak. Tretiak receive almost twice as more shot than his adversary, but Dryden had to make more difficult saves. In the second overtime period in game 6, Dryden made a stellar glove save against Syl Apps Sr. on a breakaway. This incredible save enable, a couple of minute later, Alexander Maltsev to score on a 2 on 1, scoring on a great feed from Roy Conacher.

- Although the discussion were heavy at first, the interesting duo of Hap Day and Arkady Chernyshev seems to have worked well, both coach have spoke highly of the other after the series.

The Minnesota Fighting Saints (3) vs. The Trinec Steelers (6)

Game Results:

The Minnesota Fighting Saints: 1 - The Trinec Steelers: 4
The Minnesota Fighting Saints: 3 - The Trinec Steelers: 2 OT
The Trinec Steelers: 4 - The Minnesota Fighting Saints: 6
The Trinec Steelers: 3 - The Minnesota Fighting Saints: 1
The Minnesota Fighting Saints: 3 - The Trinec Steelers: 2
The Trinec Steelers: 2 - The Minnesota Fighting Saints: 3

The Minnesota Fighting Saints (3) defeats The Trinec Steelers (7) in 6 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Bobby Hull - Trinec Steelers
2: Scott Stevens - Minnesota Fighting Saints
3: Cyclone Taylor - Minnesota Fighting Saints

Series Recap:

- Bobby Hull played very good series, on a team where only Peter Forsberg and him showed up. They teamed-up for 10 of their team 17 goals and were electrifying together all series. Nedomansky seemed out of place of the line and was often left out by the dynamic duo.

- The Youngster duo of Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin were often mismatch by the strong defensive duo of Scott Stevens and Cyclone Taylor. While they were able to score a goal each in this series, it is obvious that the Fighting Saints defensive duo outbeated them.

- For the winners, the best forward in this series was unquestionably Mickey Mackay. The PCHA star use his speed and his great stickhandling abilities with ease against a defensive corp that couldn't stop him. In game five, he scored the game winner late in the period by deking defenseman Art Ross before scoring on Bill Durnan by moving his body to the right, but reaching far left with the puck and sliding it near Durnan left post. Mackay later admitted that before the game, he watched the famous tape of his adversary Peter Forsberg doing the same trick.

The Anyang Halla (4) vs. The Boston Braves (5)

Game Results:

Anyang Halla: 3 - Boston Braves: 2
Anyang Halla: 1 - Boston Braves: 2 OT
Boston Braves: 4 - Anyang Halla: 2
Boston Braves: 1 - Anyang Halla: 5
Anyang Halla: 3 - Boston Braves: 1
Boston Braves: 2 - Anyang Halla: 1
Anyang Halla: 4 - Boston Braves: 1

The Anyang Halla (4) defeats The Boston Braves (5) in 7 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Mario Lemieux - Anyang Halla
2: Larry Robinson - Boston Braves
3: Valeri Kharlamov - Boston Braves

Series Recap:

- Mario Lemieux was phenomenal in this series. He was the game breaking player everyone love to watch. Although surrounded with strong linemate, Lemieux seemed to be alone on his line and was definitely the charter member of his team.

- The famous Kharlamov-Petrov-Mikhailov, again reunited, were smoking hot. The Duo of Pospisil-Salming tried all series to contain them, but it seems only Jiri Holecek had the answer for them.

- Although they played a sound defensive game, second trio of Halla, consisting of Johnny Gottselig-Ralph Backstrom-Georges Armstrong didn't do much offensively. Even the fourth line of Kozlov-Starshinov-Balderis had more offensive chances.

- Interestingly, after losing game 2 in overtime, coach Tarasov decided to go with Vladimir Dzurilla for game #3. After losing that game, he went back to Holecek, who was brilliant until the end of the series.

The Detroit Red Wings (2) vs. The Colorado Avalanches (7)

Game Results:

Detroit Red Wings: 1 - Colorado Avalanches: 0 OT
Detroit Red Wings: 3 - Colorado Avalanches: 1
Colorado Avalanches: 2 - Detroit Red Wings: 0
Colorado Avalanches: 1 - Detroit Red Wings: 3
Detroit Red Wings: 1 - Colorado Avalanches: 0 2OT

The Detroit Red Wings (2) defeats The Colorado Avalanches (7) in 5 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Dominik Hasek - Detroit Red Wings
2: Patrick Roy - Colorado Avalanches
Co-3: Red Kelly - Detroit Red Wings
Co-3: Ted Kennedy - Detroit Red Wings

Series Recap:

- It seems that they were only four players on the ice all series long: the two goaltenders in Patrick Roy and Dominik Hasek, forward and Detroit team captain Teeder Kennedy and defenseman Red Kelly. All four were head and shoulders above any other player who grace the ice with them.

- The story of this series was without any doubt the showdown between Dominik Hasek and Patrick Roy. Both played tremendously well, overshadowing everyone not name Red Kelly or Ted Kennedy. Together, they stopped 163 of the 175 shots they receive all series, for a save percentage of .931. The two overtime playoff showdown in game five was perhaps the best display of goalkeeping since the famous Gardiner-Hall faceoff in the Milt Dunnell championship final game in All-Time Draft #7.

- The trio of Goulet-Perreault-Cournoyer was abysmal all series long, scoring a lonely goal in 5 games. It was not a surprise for anyone when coach Demers told the reporter that Gilbert Perreault and Yvan Cournoyer both play with extensive injuries that will require surgery.

The Wacken Warriors (3) vs. The Victoria Salmon Kings (6)

Game Results:

Wacken Warriors: 3 - Victoria Salmon Kings: 0
Wacken Warriors: 2 - Victoria Salmon Kings: 1 OT
Victoria Salmon Kings: 3 - Wacken Warriors: 1
Victoria Salmon Kings: 1 - Wacken Warriors: 2
Wacken Warriors: 3 - Victoria Salmon Kings: 4 2OT
Victoria Salmonn Kings: 1 - Wacken Warriors: 4

The Wacken Warriors (3) defeats The Victoria Salmon Kings (6) in 6 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Jacques Plante - Wacken Warriors
2: Joe Sakic - Wacken Warriors
3: King Clancy - Victoria Salmon Kings

Series Recap:

- Jacques Plante has been phenomenal all series long. He outplayed his opponent Martin Brodeur in five of the six games.

- Joe Sakic was by far the best offensive force in this series, scoring 5 goals and 2 game winners. However, the first line of Smith-Sakic-Bahgate didn't seems to click as much in the playoffs. Rumours as it that Andy Bathgate is playing through an injury, although unconfirmed.

- For the Salmon Kings, the duo of Clancy-Stewart was the best duo of defenseman all series long. The duo was able to contain Wacken's first line when they were paired against them. However, coach Patrick admitted after the series that the play of Wentworth and Harper had been disappointing.

- The unsung hero for the Salmon Kings in this series was definitely center Cooney Weiland. Scoring the game winning goal for the Salmon Kings in the fifth game who went into double overtime, he also was a force in the defensive zone. Perhaps the second most important forward for Victoria after Max Bentley.

---------------------------------------------------------

The Kilkenny Bustards (4) vs. The Kenora Thistles (5)

Game Results:

Kilkenny Bustards: 4 - Kenora Thistles: 2
Kilkenny Bustards: 8 - Kenora Thistles: 1
Kenora Thistles: 2 - Kilkenny Bustards: 0
Kenora Thistles: 4 - Kilkenny Bustards: 3 OT
Kilkenny Bustards: 1 - Kenora Thistles: 2 OT
Kenora Thistles: 3 - Kilkenny Bustards: 4 2OT
Kilkenny Bustards: 5 - Kenora Thistles: 2

The Kilkenny Bustards (4) defeats The Kenora Thistles (5) in 7 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Wayne Gretzky - Kenora Thistles
2: Glenn Hall - Kilkenny Bustards
3: Mark Messier - Kenora Thistles

Series Recap:

- The depth and the poor performances of goaltender Tiny Thompson hurt the Kenora Thistles in this series, because the stars of this team showed up, starting with #99 Wayne Gretzky. He and linemate Mark Messier were both extremely effective, making the best out of what Glenn Hall were given them. It's a given that if both goaltenders would of switched teams, the faith of this series would of been different.

- Bryan Trottier was the Kilkenny most dominating force on the ice. He and Brett Hull displayed some great offensive abilities, while often John Tonelli was covering for their lack of defensive awareness.

- Dick Duff was sublime, keeping Anders Hedberg off the scoreboard all series long. Hedberg, who scored 49 goals in the regular season on a line with Gretzky and Messier, was not able to get a lone one in 7 games.

- Defenseman Viktor Kuzkin made a name for himself in this series. Moving up on a line with Paul Coffey, relegating Mike Ramsay with Sologubov on the second pairing, Kuzkin played smart, positional hockey, covering the mistake prone Paul Coffey.

The Glace Bay Miners (2) vs. The Edmonton Oilers (7)

Game Results:

Glace Bay Miners: 7 - Edmonton Oilers: 3
Glace Bay Miners: 2 - Edmonton Oilers: 1 OT
Edmonton Oilers: 0 - Glace Bay Miners: 2
Edmonton Oilers: 5 - Glace Bay Miners: 2
Glace Bay Miners: 6 - Edmonton Oilers: 3

The Glace Bay Miners (2) defeats The Edmonton Oilers (7) in 5 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Denis Potvin - Glace Bay Miners
Co-2: Johnny Bower - Edmonton Oilers
Co-2: Ted Lindsay - Edmonton Oilers

Series Recap:

- Denis Potvin was nothing short of phenomenal all series. He shown to the world the tremendous package of a player he is. He was an offensive wizard, he thrown hit every time he could and was the best defensive player on the ice. He's the main reason the Oilers first offensive line of Lindsay-Yzerman-Anderson didn't had the success everyone thought they would.

- Terrible Ted was terrible all series long ... in a good way. The scrappy forward was the only player on the Oilers that intimidate both Potvin and Pronovost and was definitely the Oilers most potent offensive force.

- As much as Bernard Geoffrion played an amazing series, both of his linemate played poorly. The Bodrov-Lach duo didn't produce offensively and often rely on Geoffrion to do the dirty work. The second center of Glace Bay, Joe Primeau, played a better all-around game than Lach, with poorer linemate.

-----------------------------------------------------

The New Westminster Bruins (3) vs. The Dauphin Kings (6)

Game Results:

New Westminster Bruins: 6 - Dauphin Kings: 0
New Westminster Bruins: 3 - Dauphin Kings: 2
Dauphin Kings: 2 - New Westminster Bruins: 3
Dauphin Kings: 1 - New Westminster Bruins: 0
New Westminster Bruins: 3 - Dauphin Kings: 1

The New Westminster Bruins (3) defeats The Dauphin Kings (6) in 5 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Maurice Richard - New Westminster Bruins
2: Bobby Clarke - Dauphin Kings
3: Dit Clapper - New Westminster Bruins

Series Recap:

- The headline of this series could contain only three words: Maurice, Rocket and Richard. The Rocket was far and away the most electrifying player on the ice. Scoring 7 of his team 15 goals, even his line partner Frank Boucher couldn't keep up with him. He was flamboyant, strong, skated like the wind and even use finesse from time to time. One of the best performance in this year first round.

- Bernard Parent played better than his opponent Charlie Gardiner, who was merely acceptable in goal. Shooting from all angles, Parent made tremendous saves all series long. However, the Kings's defensive squad was not able to sweep the rebounds. McCrimmon and Hatcher played particularly bad in these series.

- The unsung hero of the series was Doug ''Diesel'' Mohns. He played very good defensively, always in good position to cut passes and feed his winger in transition. He also played in front in game five, on a line with Pat Lafontaine and Theoren Fleury; Kevin Stevens who had been injured by a severe bodycheck of Eric Lindros. Mohns hold in own and even feed Theoren Fleury, who scored the game winner of this series.

--------------------------------------------------

The Hampton Road Admirals (4) vs. The Kimberley Dynamiters (5)

Game Results:

Hampton Road Admirals: 3 - Kimberley Dynamiters: 5
Hampton Road Admirals: 6 - Kimberley Dynamiters: 5 OT
Kimberley Dynamiters: 4 - Hampton Road Admirals: 1
Kimberley Dynamiters: 5 - Hampton Road Admirals: 3
Hampton Road Admirals: 2 - Kimberley Dynamiters: 1 2OT
Kimberley Dynamiters: 3 - Hampton Road Admirals: 4 OT
Hampton Road Admirals: 4 - Kimberley Dynamiters: 3

The Hampton Road Admirals (4) defeats The Kimberley Dynamiters (5) in 7 games.

Series Three Stars

1: Eddie Shore - Hampton Road Admirals
2: Brad Park - Kimberley Dynamiters
3: Doug Gilmour - Hampton Road Admirals

Series Recap:

- A series where a hot goaltender could of made the difference. Unfortunately for both team, both Georges Vézina and Roy Worters players poorly. Even with the series W, coach Jack Adams told the media that he would need a stronger performance from Worters if the team want to go further than the second round.

- Both #1 defenseman played as people thought they could: tremendously. Shore and Park were the backbone of their respective team defensive unit.

- Although Newsy Lalonde played extremely well all series, concern has arise for the Hampton Road, has it seems the chemistry Lalonde had with his linemate Syd Howe and Cam Neely seems to have vanished. Both Howe and Neely had subpart series.

Very nice job on the two mini-writeups so far. I hope you have the time to do more. If not, I'd understand.

While it's fine to have a "results" thread, we should probably paste these mini-writeups into the series threads too.

Hopefully next round a few more people are available and we can get writeups done for the next eight series.

Don't know if I should put it here, or in the series thread. But thanks to Sather for the series. While I thought New West was the better team, I'm surprised the series didn't go longer. I thought it would go six. Playing against a rough and tumble team like Dauphin, I'm glad to finish it in five.

I thought Sather did an admirable job taking over the team in mid-draft. Maybe we can do it again sometime, Sather, and hopefully next time we face, you'll have your team.

I don't know if I buy Brad McCrimmon playing poorly in a series. The guy was a rock, one of the best defensive defencemen in the league for a lot of years. Frankly, I'd keep stuff like that out of write-ups. We're celebrating the game's history here, regardless of which decade they played in, and guys like McCrimmon and Hatcher deserve better than a comment like "played particularly bad."

Mohns is a really valuable guy to have because of his speed, strength and toughness. Against a team like Dauphin, with their size and strength up front, a guy like Mohns becomes so important because he has the speed and strength and toughness to handle the opposition.

Also thanks to EB for doing it this way, and keeping the draft moving, instead of dragging out the process, because that's how guys lose interest. Especially those who have been eliminated from the playoffs. Write-ups are fun and nice, but they aren't a necessity.

It's not my opinion by any means when I say something bad on a player. I have the list of every players who receive stars consideration by all GM's. I will talk highly of someone who received a lot of consideration. Players who received no consideration will perhaps get some negative. I'm trying to move fast while keeping it real. I'm just trying to find reasons why a team lost. GM's are smart enough to understand those are all made for fun and that all players selected are All-Time greats.

I expected New West-Dauphin would be a long, grind it out type of series, surprising it only went 5 games. Also thought the Roy-Hasek matchup in Detroit-Colorado would extend that series longer than 5 games. Anyway, nice work on the write-ups EB, you've put a lot of work into this thing, thumbs up.

ALL DONE! Wow, I was crazy starting this, but finally made it though all 12 series. I hope it's not too much to ask for someone to make the second round playoffs thread ... It's been now 5 hours straight I'm in front of my computer!

Hope you liked it.

Great work EB, kudos. Really appreciate that you took the time to do this all. Also, thanks to my opponent LL for a great series, I really didn't expect to only go 5.

Just gotta say though, some of the other results really surprise me as well, especially the length. Can't believe there wasn't even a single upset! I think some of the lower seeds were unfairly judged, there were some great teams in those seeds.

- We are happy to move on but not thrilled to face lada. We just hope they are more beat up after going six games with the Habs.

- No upsets? It surprises me too. I think I voted for about 4-5 upsets myself.

- Nothing wrong with the negatives. Not every single player on every team will have a stellar series.
