He was a Kekalainen special: a guy that Kekalainen personally liked even though he was a bit of a long shot type.
He is still a prospect. He didn't do that well after being drafted the last couple years, but he's had a better year this year. I can say that I'll probably get a profile up for him some time around Christmas, when I overhaul/clean up the Sens page.
As for a role in the NHL, he's a pest. He's only about 5'10", but a stocky, thick player. A solid skater with some offensive ability, he will drop the gloves and get under the opponent's skin: a Sean Avery type. His stock has all of a sudden risen this year, so I could see him coming over at some point.
