You don't actually need a goalie if you're good enough.
That philosophy hasn't worked out too well for Edmonton.

And a goalie........................
Nashville is primed to roll with Ashkarov next season, which means 'No Goals' Sarros will have a new home, but where?

I thought EDM would trade for him at the deadline this season but then Nashville went on that run and ruined the strategy. Also surprised that Markstrom hasn't moved.

Yeah but it did for 5 out of the last 8 Cup winners.
All of whom had serious defensive depth and good defensive forwards. If your entire team is committed to that philosophy then yeah, maybe you can go cheap in goal. But I wouldn't advise it.

Edmonton is a great example of this. Their entire team wants to get the puck and go making it all the more imperative they have a brick wall in goal.

More bad ones have Cups than elite ones. I don't make the rules.
The game has evolved so much even in the last couple of years that teams won't be successful without a good goalie. Every contending team's got elite offensive takent to some degree. Teams cant exclusively defense their way to the grail any longer. Look at teams that attempted to sit on leads playing D. That's just my opinion.
