Really happy the Canes are down 3-0 their fanbase has become one of my least favorite.
I interact with a guy on noir a lot and he is a hockey/Canes fan. He watched the 2019 run with a Blues fan (Canes were swept in conf finals by Boston ... they had Faulk then too) so last year when the Blues were out I watched all the Canes playoff games closely while we discussed them. I like their fans generally. The team is a lot like the Blues in the mid 2010s right now.

Yessir. Home of the BCHL Spruce Kings and WHL Prince George Cougars.
Bet it's beautiful as hell. I don't have any special connection I just like geography!

PG itself isn't that picturesque, but I love the region. The 3 Pulp mills within city limits and homeless/housing problems detract alot from the overall town being an industrial and transit corridor hub.

This said, the town does offer a fairly green landscape, without many buildings over 4 floors, so the skyscape isn't cluttered.

I hike, kayak and camp and these are cheap and very accessible in the area, as you have decent Alpine hikes within an hour drive. We have canyon and hill hikes within 15 mins of town.

I kayak a leg of the Nechako river that bisects the town several times a year because of the convenience and easy temperature relief in the summer, I'm also working on finishing up the Crooked river trip (I've got another 52km left to do, which is 2 day trips). Then I'm looking at take in/out points to divide the Parsnip River into manageable day trips.

Camping at free forest recreation sites, on crown land offers dozens of nice sites.

These are some of the better photos I've taken highlighting some of my favourite places within 60 mins of town. Worth noting a few are the same location at different times of day to capture Sunrise or changing season colors.

Tradeoff is I'm 7-9 hours drive from a city larger than 120k residents depending on weather and road conditions (Kelowna/Vancouver/Edmonton). Town population is somewhere in the 70-80k range depending on source.

Winters I deal with 5+ feet of snow in town (more in the bush) and -40f weather on a cold day (-13f on average, -25c for Robb and others).

I hiked about an hour at 3am and sat in the bush getting eaten alive by mosquitoes for 30 minutes waiting for sunrise to capture the fog lifting off the lake and river for that particular shot.

Teapot mountain is roughly 30 miles north of PG at the northern tip of Summit lake (mouth of the crooked river I mentioned last post) - I spent a lot of time in the area growing up and continue to do so, because it's not super busy and it's about 40 mins drive away by the time you're done with the logging road access.

But, it's probably one of my best photos I've ever taken (off my Samsung galaxy 3 at the time, god I feel old).

Whitehorse was even better from an isolation and air quality perspective. More mountains around and more daylight in the summer - really enjoyed the year I spent up there, just prior to our cup run.

These are some of the better shots I took in that area between May 2018 and April 2019
(Dawson City, Muncho Lake, Atkin BC, Whitehorse ish area).

Beauty!

I could spend hours looking at this kind of stuff.

None of my photos are retouched or use filters, I have never felt a need to refine any of them (hell I think I have a finger or two that are in the shot from holding my phone badly in the uploads in the past 2 posts).

Why? Not looking to argue. I'm just genuinely curious. Canes are the team I'm rooting for in the East. They are fun to watch with their high volume shot game, and I like several of their players. I also like the city of Raleigh a lot.

I don't interact with their fans though. What do they do to make you dislike them?

Edit: Also wasn't Carolina the board that did the bandwagon draft where playoff team's could draft Carolina fans to jump on their bandwagon? This ones we drafted were super cool, and that is just a fun thing.
f*** em. They think they're so smart all the time.

Adding another few from tonight, looking at the Northern lights - clouds obstructed some of the view, but with the Geo-magnetic storm tonight was the most impressive lights display I've seen this far south (Dawson city being about 1500 miles drive to the Northwest).

hahaha isn't that the critique of our fan base? we're so jaded from seeing all those losses, but experienced in seeing a winner get built, so we know about everything
This is just a very base feeling I have towards them. It won't hold up to peer reviews or any kind of strong logic. It isn't going to change tho.

stars-avs is such a fun matchup. great hockey between 2 teams playing high-level hockey but built quite differently. dallas has much better goalie. avs have high end talent, with probably top defensive pair in league and maybe top line. heck, they have best defenseman in league and probably 2nd best forward. towes and rantanen and nuke are excellent too. 2nd line 2nd pairing are fine, but after that not much. stars have maybe deepest roster of forward talent in the league. no superstar up front just lots of good players. reminds me of our Cup team that way. and miro is maybe 2nd best defenseman in league, or close to it. he's fantastic. harley and tanev are good, but that 3rd pair is their achilles heel. if they go down i bet that is big part of why.

They need Blues legend Jani Hakanpaa back in the worst way. Crazy they gave up a 1st for Lundkvist. The kid is talented offensively but is just a liability out there defensively.

It has been a fun series, and if Dallas can knock of my two most despised teams back to back I may have to root for them the rest of the way. Doesn't seem fair that basically every young guy on the Stars is gonna be a stud (or is already).

I'm not sure I agree with everyone anointing Makar the best d-man in the league, though. Best offensive d-man sure, but if I need to win one game or one series I'm picking a couple other guys before him. He started the playoffs super hot but he's looked more like Cale Meh-kar these past two games. You just hate to see it.
