If anything these playoffs have shown me that their unpredictability make any big declarations useless.

Whether or not you saw the Canucks leading this series I bet nobody saw it going the way it has to get there, ie low scoring, Saros hasn't been that great etc.

If we make it through Nashville and face Edmonton I'm ready to be surprised again (hopefully in a good way lol.)
It was not that unpredictable.

I said before the series, repeatedly, if the Canucks want to be successful against Nashville, they need to keep the game low-event, low-pace, and limit rush play. That is largely what's happened.

Oilers have a cakewalk to the WCF. I will likely bet their series price -1.5, -2.5, and sweep, regardless of opponent next round.

They will get bashed in by Dallas or Colorado though. Those are actually elite teams.
I will likely be taking those bets too, I just can't see either Van or Nash even winning one game against the Oilers right now. That PP completely dismantled the Kings and they were the 2nd best PK team during the regular season. Probably take the Oilers at -1.5 each game too.

If the Oilers play the Avs in the WCF, how does every game not end in 7-6 or something? 2 teams with absolutely unstoppable offense, meh defense and suspect goaltending. Should be pretty safe to bet the over every game, no?

How did each NHL team get its name? From Avalanche to Wild, the history of every nickname

Ducks - Disney owned them
Bruins - Owner & Head Coach named them but could have been owners' secretary
Sabres - picked from publicly submitted names
Flames - kept it when moved from Atlanta
Hurricanes - owners picked the name
Blackhawks - originally called Black Hawks by owner; name comes from his infintry division which was named after a native war leader; switched to Blachawks in 1986
Avalanche - fan contest
Blue Jackets - name chosen 3 years prior to entering the NHL; fan contest
Stars - just dropped the "North" and is in reference to "Lone Star State"
Red Wings - owner changed name from Cougars & Falcons; homage to Montreal-based amateur club called Winged Wheelers
Oilers - owner named them
Panthers - fan contest
Kings - fan contest
Wild - chosen from fan submissions
Canadiens - named by owner to appeal to the Francophone population
Predators - based on sabre-tooth cat tooth found in Nashville in 1971; logo revealed before name; owner chose the name
Devils - fan contest
Islanders - because they played on Long Island
Rangers - sportwriter's called the team "Tex's Rangers" after owner Tex Rickard; owner liked it and kept it
Senators - named after 1920s cup-winning teams
Flyers - named by owner's sister
Penguins - named by owner's wife
Sharks - named Sharks after didn't like fan contest submissions
Kraken - kind of just named that because scary sea monster
Blues - owner named them
Lightning - fan contest was a sham; named by local lawyer's mother
Maple Leafs - originally Arenas, then St. Patricks, then Conn Smythe changed to Maple Leafs; named after WW1 badge worn by Canadian soldiers; there's an explanation on why it's "Leafs" and not "Leaves" “It follows the simple rule that nouns used as proper nouns take regular (productive) plurals even if their common noun counterparts have irregular plurals,”
Canucks - PCL team was named this so NHL team kept it; originally from Johnny Canuck WW2 comics
Golden Knights - owner wanted to name team Black Knights but was told no so changed it to this
Capitals - fan contest
Jets - named after original franchise; Winnipeg is home to a Royal Canadian Air Force since 1925

At least he tried. He showed he was a capable AHL player which was impressive for someone that took 8 years off from the sport professionally and has his injury history.

He put up hugely impressive numbers given the circumstances. Props to him for proving to himself and others he could play, and retiring on his terms. Sucks that the condition came back.

Yeah but the market will reflect that. If the total creeps up to 7ish, probably not worth it. Qualitatively, I think an EDM-COL/DAL series would be tighter than expected, as both sides know the proximate cause of winning will be limiting the other team's offense moreso than scoring yourself.

I might not end up taking the Oilers -1.5 series price next round, I could see it getting mega juiced.

sabres is i think one of the weird ones. no local tie in. just a name the owner thought was cool.

flames is the most bizarre. it commemorates the intentional burning of atlanta by the north during the civil war and is a "never forget/the south will rise again" kind of invocation, so quite weirdly defiantly loserish for a sports team and also maybe susceptible to statue toppling sentiment at some point. blue jackets is also a civil war reference, but to the north not the south.

i like the cryptids. kraken are named after a nautical cryptid. devils are named after a regional cryptid known as the new jersey devil. panthers are named after the very rare at the time florida panther which subsequently turned out after dna testing to be a regular cougar that lives in florida.

All the names named by fans and women mostly suck. The owners' team names are mostly good.

Back when we had both the AHL and IHL Chicago could be independent. But now that we are up to 32 NHL clubs with likely another expansion in the horizon they really can’t be. Not in a league that has created rules limit teams of older players.
Chicago has to accept that otherwise there’s really no where else they can be a part of.

Probably the worst AHL organization to affiliate with since all they care about is winning, zero care about development so if a young player struggles with them they’re basically screwed and won’t see much ice time.

The Flyers is an awful name

Objectively speaking, some of the OG names would probably never pass muster in today's environment.

If Toronto never had a team before, can you imagine fans getting behind the idea of the Maple Leafs?

Or Montreal calling its team the Canadiens?

Chicago would probably be sent back to the drawing board.

Heck, you can extend this beyond just the Original Six. Would today's generation suggest a name like Canucks if we'd never had a team before?
