I think Tampa wins this year for sure. They want that 3rd cup and Vasi is playing out of his mind. I think they may even win next year too. They have the best FO in the league and now that theyve replenished their third line, they have an extremely good shot.

TB would have to find or trade for some serious diamonds in the rough to have a shot next year. They are likely to lose some quality depth this coming off-season.

I honestly don't care. Once the Canes were eliminated my interest in the playoffs is over. The NHL does an extremely poor job of marketing itself and making me care about the sport in general, and with the way ESPN treated us during our run, I have zero desire to tune into them again.

Plus, Tampa being in it again is just not interesting to me, but its not like I would have cared any more if it was the Rangers instead.

Didn’t everybody say the same thing last off-season?

Tampa has the best FO in the league. And I still believe Cooper is the best coach in the league.

Want to try and slow the game down and grind down this TB team? Tight checking defensive games? Yeah they can play that way.

Want to try and get physical? They don’t get intimidated, actually quite the opposite. It always seems like when teams try and start the after the whistle shenanigans that’s when they really pour it on and start to whoop that ass.

Run and gun offense? They got that in spades if that’s how you want to do it.

This TB core and coaching staff is the most adaptable hockey team I’ve ever seen. I hope Rod and everyone else on the Hurricanes coaching staff and the FO are paying attention and taking lots of notes. The Hurricanes inability to adjust to different playing styles and make in game, on the fly adjustments is the main thing keeping them out of that elite tier imo.

Vasilevskiy.

i knew someone would say that. They didnt lose much last off-season. Tyler Johnson and Gourde. Gourde is good and all but slightly overpaid. Really TB did themselves some favors moving that 10.1 million.

They have 5 million in space and need 3 roster spots filled. They are likely losing Palat and Ruuta. Both play the style TB needs, especially in the playoffs.

They will still have a very competitive core but that depth will start to dwindle.

What is funny is they were really close to trading Stamkos to make the cap work.

I wonder if we’ll see anyone sign with them for below market just to get an amazing chance at a cup.

I mean we say this every year though and then they just go out and trade for pieces that just work to fill in the gaps that are left. Like, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them move Hagel into the Palat role, see him work out nicely in that, and see the Bolts trade their 2024 2nd or some shit for a guy that's going to fill that role in the bottom 6 for the next 3-4 years on the cheap, or see them sign someone that's been close but just can't get over the hump for a cup to a league minimum deal for that role leaving a couple million on the table. It's just what they do at this point.

Until someone from their actual core moves on, nothing changes even if the other pieces do. And Kucherov, Point, Stamkos, Hedman, McDonagh, and Vasi aren't going anywhere for a LONG time.

There's got to be much more to the Sammy Blaise story than just that one picture of his sister with her hand on his lower back / upper ass. Did something else get deleted?

I mean, we have a guy who was elected president after saying he'd probably date Ivanka if she wasn't his daughter, these creepy photos, the video that follows where his initial thought as to what they have in common that they both enjoy is "sex", etc. So what else is there to the Blaise story? Did he say something? Pictures of the two of them grinding? There's gotta be more to elicit the response it has, right?

They also lost Coleman and Goodrow and Savard and Schenn. A lot of teams would have been devastated by that kind of turnover happening all at once, the way Montreal was.

I don't doubt that they'll fall off eventually, but we said the same thing about the Red Wings in the 2000s and the Penguins in the 2010s. It's a lot easier to backfill role players when you've got a core of superstars locked in, and I fully expect Tampa's going to come back next year with some other dudes who are just as good as Palat and Ruuta.

You wanna know how crazy things got after midnight on Hockey Twitter? You're referring to the wrong sex scandal.

That pic is of McDavid and some girl he was wandering around with while deeply drunk. Blais is a whole different thing, he responded (twice!) to pictures of his sister calling her "sexy".
