Rumors swirling that Philly signed Streit to a 4 year, 22mil contract...

If so, the Carle signing doesn't look too bad, eh?

I was just going to come in here to post the same thing. I bet Holmgren's kicking himself for not matching us on that one last summer. Streit has a better shot, but Carle's probably the superior defender now in the rest of the categories, and he'll still be younger when his contract expires than Streit is now.

Yes. Between Gonchar and Streit it's probably time to stop saying "Carle's contract isn't that bad just overpaid by 500k to 1M" and start saying that it's not a bad deal at all. Giving a 4 year deal to a 35 year old defenseman is just horrible, especially when you consider the 35+ rule.

"@DarrenDreger: Told Streit deal with Flyers is 4 years, $5.25 mil per."//Wowza.

When you get nothing but a "Wowza" from the most respected media member in hockey it's a bad deal.

$5.25m/season is a lot for Streit, and I am glad we are not the ones who will be paying it.

Playing the "Cap Game" for the Flyers in the upcoming years should be an interesting job, especially with the Briere and Bryz buyouts.

Datsyuk's agent Gary Greenstin says 3 year deal worth $23 million: $10 million first year: 7.5 2nd year; 5.5 3rd year. Cap hit is 7.5 mil

Actually 7.666 (repeating) per year but close enough.

Ah there you go, that explains it. At first I thought it was an overpayment, but now that I think about it, it may not be. He's consistently one of the top players in the league, so it's no surprise he makes 7+ mil

It's certainly no home team discount, but it's not an overpayment. Top 5 forwards in the league ain't cheap... and seriously, compare that to the Perry/Getzlaf contract, and it suddenly DOES look like a home team discount.

Couture re-signs for 5 years, $6m per year.

Terrible deal. Could have signed Mark Streit AND a borderline NHL 4th-liner for that kind of money.

The Streit deal is still funny to me

Almost missed that line at the bottom. Now, I'm seriously wondering if anyone else has written in white text outside of the GoT spoilers....

Out: Carle - in: Streit (older, pricier)
Out: Bobrovsky (won Vezina) - in: Bryzgalov (possible buyout)

Ugh.

I'll admit that this post made me laugh quite a bit more than it should have. And even though this happened a couple years ago, don't forget the firesale of Richards and Carter after they lost to Chicago in 2010 because they didn't feel they were winners...WELP!
