Timmins will benefit from experience and maturity in his game .. hasn't even played 100 games yet so there is a lot of time.

But I love his mobility and playmaking confidence. He still makes a lot of smart decisions too. Lots of potential here.
Yeah over time he'll learn the defensive side and hopefully risk control. It's crazy to think he's only played 57 games

But he has some natural talent that you just can't teach. Good potential here to turn into a top 4 defenseman

Still love this trade, but he's been getting exposed defensively a lot more lately. Feels like he is thinking too much in his own end and that extra second costs him, like on the second goal against last night. But as it's been pointed out, he only has 70 career games (58 regular season, 12 playoffs), so he's still quite raw. I think the rule of thumb is about 150-200 games to properly gauge what a young d-man can be in this league.

Timmins game to me shows his top 4 potential. The only thing holding him back is big league intense experience. I would be tempted to say his point production and vision puts him as our 2nd best Offensive D. At the moment

I wish I could find the snippet I was reading today. It was a mainstream reporting outlet, and I think it was Chris Johnston reporting the Leafs are interested in signing Timmins to an extension already.

I will see if I can find it. If that’s the case I think Holl will play out his contract and become a UFA.

a LOT a moaning from so many fans about how Leafs must improve their Defence! Trev. has made some smart UFA signings but has few resources to upgrade the D unless he trades a significant Forward. I feel Conor Timmins could be a significant contributor and a big part of the solution! He will turn 25 next month yet due to injuries, he has only 52 AHL games, 66 NHL regular season games (with 2 goals and 19 assists) and 12 NHL Playoff games (with Colorado) on his Professional resume. Picked 32nd overall by Colorado, he is 6'2" tall and brings a package of great vision, passing and mobility. Put yourself in his shoes: sitting and watching as a healthy scratch all 11 Leaf Playoff games this spring, his motivation has to be skyhigh! I'm betting a good "NHL Summer" under supervision of the Leafs' Sports Science team will have him in the best shape of his life during training camp. A major weakness of Keefe is failure to rotate depth players into the Lineup during the regular season. That resulted in Giordano and Brodie and others being burnt out and playing through nagging injuries in the Playoffs. Really, Leafs will make the Playoffs easily this season, even if
every player is rested 5 to 10 regular season games! Time will tell but I predict that Timmins will be a solid contributor to Leafs success this season.

Folks saying to trade Timmins is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

He looked good in the limited starts he got. He’s a RHD and a player I liked very much at the Draft.

Absolutely want to see him given a legitimate opportunity to develop on our team. My biggest concern is that Keefe is an idiot and incapable of allowing our young players develop. Case in point, how Liljegren’s development has gone thus far, pushing Holl ahead of him.

I like Timmins and want see more of him. The question is will Keefe?

Keefe is a goner. Guy is as dumb as the dumbfounded looks he gives off in the POs. Dubas was probably promising Keefe is just like Nick Nurse every day.

In my gut, I still seriously feel Leafs are waiting to see if Bettman will reinstate Quenneville, and if he does, they will go after him hard and put Keefe on the first train smokin’ to Hoboken…..

Justin Holl isn't here anymore who is going to be Keefe's boy now?

based on the d set what have we got?

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Klingberg
Gio-Lily
Timmins

Might as well run

McCabe-Brodie
Rielly-Lily
Timmins Klingberg

IMO Gio is way too old to play now

I don't think Treliving spent $4+ million on Klingberg to be a 3rd pair guy.

So based on that Lily, Gio, Timmons will be carving up the 3rd pair minutes.
That leaves Reilly, Brodie, McCabe and Klingberg in some combo top 4.

The smartest thing they can do is hire Quenneville.
You really think it would be a good idea to hire a guy that brushed off the rape of a teenager and gave a recommendation for the rapist to get a job at a school where he assaulted another kid, while playing in the center of the hockey universe with some of the worst media coverage in sports?

Sounds like a s*** storm. Remember how it went when they hired Dusty Imoo? What Q did was worse

Can the Leafs afford Timmins cap hit this year and still run a 20 man roster?

if they run 11-7 or if they send down Gio they can do 12-6

Ideally, they send Reaves down and he gets claimed, but I know that won't happen.

Hypothetically if Reaves was not on the roster they could have 12-7 with Holmberg and Robertson at forward (55k to spare).

It would be a shame if he were waived to fit Reaves and Klingberg. I don't think he'd clear and unless he does terribly in preseason or gets injured I'd like to see him actually get second pairing EV/second PP minutes for a stretch.

Elite vision but his defensive zone coverage is poor and he plays soft with mediocre skating.

He reminds me of a smaller Cody Franson which isn't a good thing.

Could he evolve into a #4 guy? Possibly but only if he makes significant improvements in his overall game. His future is probably a PP specialist.
