I checked into it before, trying to sell jerseys but all the major companies (distributors) said you had to have a store to be able to sell online

Well you'd have to have to be registered as a business to use your tax number to get access to wholesale catalogs. That's how it is for all goods really. From there, it is up to the companies whether or not they want to sell in smaller quantities to a smaller outfit. I'm not sure of the policies these manufacturers have. It is possible that they don't even sell directly instead using a few large distributors that you'd have to go through.

I own a very good hockey domain and would like to sell hockey things but need to be able to compete against other stores. So buying from a large distributor would be fine, but who are they?
