Can’t believe the Jets didn’t get in on this

Anyone have a description on Hakanpaa?

Geez, just gave him away.

Gotta be worth more than that for selling tickets to the ladies alone.

Did Fleury request a trade or something ? The returns seems very bad.

Hakanpaa adds some toughness for the playoffs, guess if they’re worried about players like Wilson he’ll help.

Still, huge steal for Anaheim.

Fleury's draft position may skew how this trade is viewed. 2014 is a long time ago, however. It's D+7 and he's not playing Top 4 minutes. In draft pick terms, that gamble is worth maybe a 2nd.

Carolina really wanted a defensive RHD for stylistic balance and to get everyone on their natural sides. He had value as a rental, perhaps to the tune of a 3rd. The 6th is a psychological balancer.

Slavin - Hamilton
Skjei - Pesce
Bean - Hakanpaa
Gardiner

Fleury never quite put it together for us, and now we don’t have to worry about protecting him for Seattle vs losing him for nothing.

Hakanpaa gives us something we haven’t had in a long time in a physical shutdown defenseman. We’re a more complete team for the playoffs.

Well on a -44 team Hakanpää is +/-0. He is a stellar defenseman with grit. Its actually what you need for playoffs. With Hamilton, Pesce and Slavin on the team you dont need more offense from the D. You need a guy to clear ythe crease and toughness.

Huge RHD, not the best skater. Will hit and clear the crease. Mostly paired with Fowler, they were an OK pairing.

Sounds like a good partner for Bean or Gardiner on the 3rd pairing. Canes wanted a RH stay at home defenseman to put there because teams were taking advantage of Bean-Fleury the past few games.

It makes the expansion draft intriguing for Carolina, as Canes fans guessed Fleury would be the pick. Now they would likely lose Skjei (or else Gardiner) if they wait to sign Hamilton and protect Slavin, Pesce, Bean.

Will be interesting to see how Fleury fits in. Right now the Ducks don’t have an expansion draft protection slot for him either.

Protected: Lindholm, Fowler, Manson

Exposed: Shattenkirk, Fleury, Larsson, Mahura

Exempt: Drysdale

To be honest, I haven't seen many games from Ducks this year, but what I have heard of Hakanpää, Canes got a good player. Fleury wasn't going to fit the top 4 in (or sometimes even the lineup) and though Jake Bean has been great, it's good to have someone with more defensive mind set next to him. And same goes for Gardiner. Canes have so much skill on their defense that they can afford to have a solid stay-at-home dman with physicality in their line up.

Still sad to see Fleury go. But also happy that Hakanpää gets a chance in a winning team. He worked hard to get there.

A 2nd for Fluery or a 3rd for Hakanpää would sound like a lot at this point. Looks like a OK trade though.

Adding to this, despite only having one point on the season, Hakanpaa is poised with the puck on his stick, and can make a solid outlet pass. If he continues playing like he's done in Anaheim this season, Canes fans are gonna like having him around.

You guys will like Hawk, steady defender and will make your team heavier/more physical for the playoff grind. Keeps things real safe and simple with the puck. He'll be great on the bottom pair but has also held his own with top 4 and even top pairing minutes this year. Should your blueline get nailed by injuries, Hawk can absolutely step up and give you 20+steady minutes.

Had a feeling one of the teams rumored to be interested Manson might end up pivoting to Hawk as a cheaper alternative.
