The Draft Order in No Specific Order

- Once again the draft will be reverse drafting (BM67 selects at the end of the first round and beginning of the second round)
- No trading in the minor league draft just to ensure that it doesn't get bogged down from a time standpoint (if anyone disagrees this rule is not set in stone).
- At the end of the draft just post who you think the top 5 teams are and we can use a point scale to determine the best team.

What kind of time limit do we have on picks? I'd suggest 12 hours, and then cut back to six hours for those who take too much time, to keep the draft moving.

Anyways, best of luck to all GMs.

I think that the 12 hours works best, keeps everything moving at a good pace, and at the same time the skill between 500-515 isn't going to make or break a team as it could between #1 and #15 in the regular draft.

What I really like about the minor league draft is it provides a pressure free arena where one can select one of their favorites or a relative of theirs in some cases without feeling like an idiot for doing so.

Not sure if this thing is underway or not, but I'm racing this weekend. I'll be back tomorrow night, if my turn comes just skip me...as GBC said earlier, in this draft you tend to get who you want even if you miss your turn.

Yikes, I thought we were beginning on the weekend as well, but I am ready to go whenever everbody feels is best.

And why do I never get the first pick in the ATD? :D

Well, looks like I can finally get onto HF, I am not sure what the problems were, but on that note, I will begin the draft, and have my pick up momentarily.

Cool. I have to run out to work for a few hours, so hopefully it'll be my time to pick when I get back.

Hopefully HO didn't have too much fun celebrating his all-time draft championship, since he's up after kruezer. I know I'd be celebrating pretty hard today if I was the champ...

Sorry about that, I have been having huge problems with this site the last couple days and it stopped letting me access the boards again after my last post, and then I was out for the HDIC games, but I will get my pick up within the half hour, I just need to look at a couple of things.

To begin the ATD Minor League Edition the Salmon Arm Silverbacks are proud to select their number one center (unless he was drafted in the the ATD and I am crazy, but I don't believe he was) C Sidney Crosby.

Despite only being in the league a year and a half, Crosby has already established himself as a legitimate superstar and arguably the best player currently in the game, a player of that talent level cannot be passed up, despite his short career so far.

This will likely be the last time Crosby is still available after the main part of the draft.

Hedberg did try to select Sid in the last draft, but the pick was overturned because Hedberg already had 13 forwards. I think most guys assumed Crosby was gone.

I think this is the last time he'll be available after the top 300.

Sorry for the delay. I was celebrating last night, but not too hard. It's the start of tax season, after all.

The Wanderers select C Marty Barry with their first pick. He was known as a consistent, hard-working player with good offensive talent. Detroit's manager Jack Adams once said "If I had Marty Barry... we’d win the Stanley Cup." After he acquired Barry in 1935, the Wings won the Cup in 1936 and 1937. Barry led the playoffs in scoring during one of the victories and was in 5th place the other year.

Barry was a first-team all-star in 1937. He finished in the top three in goals three times (1933, 1934, 1936) and in the top five in scoring four times (1934, 1936, 1937, 1939). Teammate Carl Liscombe said, "He was a very smooth centerman. He had the talent to get the puck by everyone. In that sense, Marty was one of the best."

"Wherever he played, Marty Barry was a productive center whose work ethic was lauded by teammates and opponents alike. His stamina and dedication made him one of the most consistent and durable performers of his era. Between 1929 and 1939, he missed only two NHL regular season games... Barry gradually assumed a more prominent role with the Bruins, racking up five consecutive 20-goal seasons from 1930 to 1935. Barry made his first appearance among the NHL's top 10 scorers in 1933-34, when his 27 goals were second only to Toronto star Charlie Conacher's total of 32... His 40-point total in the 48-game schedule in 1935-36 placed him second in the league scoring race to Sweeney Schriner. The following season he recorded a career-high 44 points, was selected to the NHL First All-Star Team and was the first Red Wing to win the Lady Byng Trophy for gentlemanly conduct." -- Legends of Hockey

I think there are some better players still. Largely because at this point defence, left wing and goal are at such a premium.
The thing about goalie is there isn't a goalie who I'd say is clear-cut above the rest. There are some good goalies to be had, some who had their moments, but nobody who's overly dominant.

I waited until the 6th or 7th round of the last draft to pick my goalie (Spit made the pick for me) and landed Kirk McLean.

Crosby and Berry were two of my top three centres available. Centre is the one position that still has some depth out there.
