Wait...we have to sign Svech and Dougie (at the very least), and we're considering taking on Fleury's contract? Even at 50%, that's not leaving a lot of room.

The interesting thing about if we could get a later 1st in a move like this is that it could be a great young player, or it could open up a move like Kuemper. The 1st we currently have is way too high to move in a deal like that, but 29 or so could be a little more right. Imma just need some things to happen.

I'm just happy that folks are getting on board with this idea now, since I was advocating for taking the Fleury dump for picks back when it was still avant-garde to do so. High draft picks are no joke, and most contending clubs that aren't fire-selling have a hard time acquiring extra first round picks, let alone two of them, in the same year. If you can do it, you should.

I don't recall a scenario where we were only taking on half for two high picks being discussed. Seemed like it was us taking him on for like 1 high pick at full price. Perhaps I'm misremembering. And several of us said if it was more creative, i.e. this, maybe.

My idea was Elvenes and a 1st for taking Fleury at full price. Elvenes has late-1st round value as a prospect, IMO, based on his AHL numbers. This is sort of like a mini-version of the same idea with one less asset but also less money taken in.

It definitely could make sense for the right deal (only taking on $3.5M/yr for a 1st+ is significantly better than the initial reports of Vegas looking for a team to take on the full contract for just a 2nd). I'm still skeptical that Vegas would be willing to do a deal that actually makes sense for us. We'll see, and I hope we are able to pull something off that is definitely good for us, because as you said adding picks for cap space is no joke and can help us out a ton as we build our roster around soon to be highly paid stars.

What would a MAF buyout look like, and when does Semin drop off?

This makes some sense. Effectively, Kuemper would come in at upwards of $8 mil a year, but would be free or close to it to acquire. Both Reimer and Mrazek would need to go clean. Nedeljkovic would have to be the backup at the league minimum this season (he is) and not much more the following. $8.7 mil for Kuemper and Nedeljkovic (w/ max Fleury retention) vs. $6.525 mil for Mrazek and Reimer.

So it would look a lot like thr Semin buyout.

1st and 2nd for that cap space for 4 years. Might be worth it

Time for some crazy talk

So that trade and Necas + Skjei for Laine gives us

Laine - Aho - TT
Svech - Tro - Palmeri
Dzingel - Staal - Foegele
Martinook - Geekie - McGinn

Slavin - Dougie
Fleury - Pesce
Gardiner - x

Reimer - Mrazek
With ~ 5 Million to fill out the roster this year Assuming Fleury is signed at 1.5 and Foegele is signed at 1

next year (not factoring in expansion draft):

Laine - Aho - TT
Svech - Tro - Palmeri
x - Staal - Foegele
x- x/Geekie - x

Slavin - Dougie
Fleury - Pesce
Gardiner - x

x - x
With ~ 40 million for Svech, Dougie, Laine, Palmeri, Goalies, and filling out the bottom of the lineup

we can afford one of the two, not both

Dougie- 8.5 mil
Svech- 6.75 m
Palmiere- 5.5 m
Foegele- 2.25 m
Fleury 1.75 m
Geekie- 1.5 m
Laine - 9m

That is 35.25 million already. I dont think any of those signings are bloated. 5 million for 2 goalies and 4 other roster spots.

With these big contracts coming up we’re going to be tight against the cap for a while. We’ve got to hope we can fill in our roster with some players that can contribute on their ELC’s. I think in the next 1-2 seasons we should hopefully have 1 or 2 of Drury, Bokk, Suzuki, Jarvis, Puistola, Rees, Cotton, 2020 2nd rounders on the roster.

Would love to see two top 6 forwards come out of this group. I think there’s a good chance we do.
