All-Award Lines

All members of Ducks' current second line (Selänne-Koivu-Blake) have won Bill Masterton Memorial Throphy for perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey:
- Koivu in 2002 after returning to hockey after cancer
- Selanne in 2006 after returning to top form after major knee surgery at age of 35
-Blake in 2008 for playing full 82-game season despite being diagnosed with cancer.

Is such a gimmick historically unique or have there been lines out there with all three players having won a major NHL award (same or different)?

I guess is hard to beat Montreal's Geoffrion-Beliveau-Richard for three Hart winning players.

Close cases would be Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Hull from Detroit. At the time they played together in Detroit, only Hull had won an individual award (Hart 1991), although both Datsyuk (2006-2009 Lady Byngs and 2008-2010 Selkes) and Zetterberg (2008 Conn Smythe) went on to win awards later in their career.

Unfortunately Modano lost the Calder to overaged Makarov, otherwise Hull-Modano-Lehtinen would have all had an award.

These 3 typically did not play together. Beliveau and Geoffrion did, however at the beginning of the 50's dynasty, Bert Olmstead was their regular LW. Moore-H. Richard-M. Richard was the other scoring line.

When was Francis-Lemieux-Jagr a line?

In the 1994-1995 season Francis won his first two trophies (Byng and Selke) and Jagr won his first Art Ross, so if they were a line at any time after that they would count.

When they were in LA, Robitaille (Calder), Gretzky, and Kurri (Byng) sometimes played on a line together.

Pretty sure in 2007-08 Lecavalier (Richard), St. Louis (Hart), and Richards (Smythe) would play together on the PP, but they weren't really a regular line at even strength.

What were the lines on the 2002 Red Wings? If either Fedorov (Hart) or Yzerman (Pearson) had centered Robitaille and Hull (Hart) at the same time, that would've worked.

Mikita, Hull, and Wharram (Byng) were never really on the same line together, right?

i can't believe i'm saying this, but in seven months, we could be adding last year's playoff line of byfuglien (norris), toews (smythe), and kane (calder) to this list.

i can't believe i'm saying this, but in seven months, we could be adding last year's playoff line of byfuglien (norris), toews (smythe), and kane (calder) to this list.

IMO Byfuglien needs to be a lot better defensively before he gets serious Norris consideration (He doesn't even play on the PK for Atlanta). Who knows though, the voters sure have shown how little they care about the defense of highly effective offensive defenseman in past years with their votes for Mike Green.

1996-'97 I remember the three of them playing on a line at times. Lemieux would be shifted to LW.

I know it hasn't been done yet but Heatley (Calder), Thornton (Hart, Art Ross) and Marleau (so close to the Byng so many times) would be close

Just off the top of my head the Mahovlich(Calder)-Delvecchio(Lady Byng)-Howe(Hart or Ross) that played together with Detroit during Mahovlich's stay in Detroit would be on the list.

Oh yeah, in the first half of the Canucks' '97-'98 season, Keenan would sometimes put Bure (Calder), Messier (Hart), and Linden (Clancy) on a line together. But it was a flop, like everything else that year.

And if we're including players who would go on to win awards, Naslund lined up alongside Bure and Messier early that year, before getting moved to the second line.

Marcel Dionne won 2 Byngs and 2 Lindsays, while both Charlie Simmer and Dave Taylor would eventually win Masterton's long after the Triple Crown line was dust.

Gord Kluzak also eventually won a Masterton and played mostly with Ray Bourque in 1987-88.

Scotty typically had a pair of forwards on each line and interchanged the 3rd forward...he had an infinite # of line combos, even during the game. Yzerman did center Hull & Robitaille for some games, they called it the 600 line b/c each player had already reached 600 career goals a piece. This site goes back to 07-08 and answers the line combos questions. I remember Fedorov had a few shifts with Hull & Luc here and there, but it was very rare.
