Very pleasantly surprised. He's easily most deserving of the 3rd spot there but I didn't expect him to get it. KK is clear winner and Robertson was also ahead of Ned but the top 3 is spot on. Awesome for him and I hope he can build on what he's started here going forward

The organization is doing a lot of things well. But goalies' success seems more luck than insight: Borg and RBA started their first season with Darling as #1; Borg didn't think Ned had a spot this season.Hey.. His mom probably did..

While the point still stands Borg and RBA inherited Darling and promptly sent to the minors until they found a sucker to unload him on. That wasn't luck they knew he had no place

Let's not recreate history. Darling was the starter until he got injured in the preseason and the organization had no choice but to acquire another tender, which they did really well with in taking McElhinney off waivers. But even with McElhinney playing well, Darling was the #1 in November. It wasn't prompt as the season was all but lost when Darling was finally demoted for good.

Pretty sure in Rods first year they had already brought in Petr to compete with Darling. In no world does he win that job

42 hit it already. I'm sure you're right that they knew he wasn't just garbage but a full burning dumpster fire at that point, but i think they likely intended to ride Mrazek hard as the #1 and try to dumpster Darling first chance they got if he shit the bed
Anyway, congrats to Ned on this. Nobody saw this coming before the season, but sometimes all a guy needs is a chance.

I think they intended to give darling a chance to play his way out of his funk, but as it became clear that wasn't going to happen they cut bait as soon as it made sense.

By all accounts Darling worked really hard to get into shape the summer before his last season here (we won't talk about the summer before his first season here). It might have been optimistic, but it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that he might actually rebound to be what we thought we had signed. Given that we were stuck with his contract, seems like the powers that be had little choice but to see if that played out. Unfortunately it didn't.

Does the Masterton count as a major award? Manny Malhotra was a finalist in 2013-14. Despite how short a time he was with the Canes I really admired that guy.

I really liked Manny too. Not that there's ever a bad Masterton winner, but in retrospect it's amazing he didn't win the following year, when Dubnyk won it basically for going on a hot streak after being traded.

I thought he had a chance to start a few games and be decent enough to maybe consider as a 1B next season. I've been a fan of the kid, but I thought that was the absolute upside.
What’s funny is that he’s eligible for the Calder next year too! He’s not 26 until after the season starts. He hasn’t played in more than 25 games in one season. And he hasn’t played in 6 or more games in any 2 preceding seasons. Crazy that he could win the Calder twice.

I do enjoy that the guy that would have singlehandedly saved the series for the Rangers last year finished behind Ned.
