Hall was surplus and had no chemistry with McDavid and needed a D. Larsson has been great in edmonton and over the last 2 seasons is turning into a great Dman on his own right.

They had very limited time together so how can we judge their chemistry? And further to that Hall did have a lot of success with draisaitl. Given the Oilers lack of forward depth Hall was absolutely not a surplus then or now. Yes the Oilers needed Larsson but the price they paid was too high.
