Will the San Jose Sharks sign a cheap 7th defenseman for injury insurance near league minimum.

Maybe a trade with their California neighbour? Anaheim has too many depth D and may be forced to try and pass a couple through waivers. Perhaps someone like Brendan Guhle (2 years at 800k) would be a good trade target for a team needing to add a blueliner.

Ducks would still have Lindholm, Fowler, Manson, Shattenkirk, Larsson, Djoos, Curran, Hakanpaa, Mahura and Benoit.

Waiver claims

Teams sign a fee vets st league min salary or 2 way contracts that get sent through waivers that San Jose can claim one.

There is also a level of uncertainty with CHL hockey so teams who might have sent back a Dman might opt to keep him which makes some low vets available.

There will probably be a bunch on waivers. Penguins have 8 on their roster, Stars have 9.

Doug Wilson indicated they're interested in adding one so most likely they will have some interest at some point but I suspect they try to add one through UFA. I'd be more than happy with Slater Koekkoek or Jan Rutta in that role.

Sharks shouldn't give up anything for a 7th d. Way too many options available.
I agree San Jose doesn’t need to trade for a 7th defenseman when they have so many options available in free agency or through waivers before the season begins.

The Sharks have a little over 2.3 in cap to make a minor move.

Defensemen on the FA market that should be under 1mil that might interest San Jose.

Jordie Benn for a 4th round pick would get it done

Thomas Hickey for future considerations or a 7th . He is not a bad player . Just need the cap space .

You might be hard pressed to get future considerations or a 7th for Thomas Hickey in this environment, I’ve been told that Alex Killorn is only worth a conditional 7th  which had me cracking up.

So Hickey might only be worth some old hot dog chunks and maybe some dirty dish water which is somewhere between a 7th and no consideration whatsoever. :D
