Next practice: Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Voorhees.

The dark numbers:

  • The Flyers are 0-5-6 in the last 11 at Columbus. The last win there was December 13, 2005.
  • The Flyers have won just three of the past 17 games in this series.
  • Columbus is 6-0 in OT/SO.

Wow!

I mean I know we normally suck against Columbus but I had no idea it was this bad.

The Flyers lost 12 straight at New Jersey which ended in 2008. I think that is the record for consecutive road losses to one team. If it is, the possibility of matching that feat will be raised most certainly.

There have been longer winless streaks but those included ties.

Columbus lineup is a lot scarier on paper than I thought. Hope the top line plans to score 3 times to win.

It's difficult to play 6 games in 8 nights, and take a red eye home from Vegas.
Columbus will be a better gauge in terms of how well this team is playing, a couple days off and a relatively short flight.
If Bob beats them it's one thing, if they beat themselves quite another.

Provorov and Ghost looked pretty worn down last game. It must be difficult to carry 3 AHL defenseman.
Yes, they really were. And injuries are very likely to happen soon to Ghost, G, Couts or other top minute players.

Still, some people think this would change if the Flyers promoted some young guns from LV. But would they really get more minutes immediately? And others argue, we should make use of momentum after a goal and always re-start with our best players. In addition, they should also be used more in the last minutes of a game when leading. Plus players like the "AHL defensemen" should never be used in a 4-4 or 3-3 situation.

The coach is so dumb in not managing to reduce ice time of Manning, Hägg, MacDonald, Filppula, Weise, Lehtera and Leier at the same time while saving our few top players from wearing down.

How do you reduce Manning/Hagg/MacDonald/Filppula/etc ice time? Not play them.

How do you alleviate pressure from the top units? Have better supporting units.

Every night we aren't icing the best group possible. NAK/Sanheim/Lindblom/Morin are all upgrades to our current lineup that would mitigate the strain on the top pair and top forward units.

You hope they're upgrades.
You don't know they're upgrades.
Unless Hextall is a stone cold idiot, I doubt they're sure things right now.
Or they'd be playing for the Flyers.

We already know Sanheim is an upgrade on 3 to 4 of our defenseman and I really hope that any of the forwards I listed would be an upgrade to Weise/Lehtera/Filppula.
There is really only two reasons the current trash continues to get playing time game in and game out. Either the organization is not playing the best available players in their system hence not putting the best possible line up together or the organization has completely failed at drafting if they think no one currently in the ahl is an upgrade over the trash on this team. It really is black and white.

No, we don't know.
Sanheim getting demoted had zero impact on this team, so he couldn't have been a difference maker.
Down the road, who knows?

If those forwards were so great, they'd be dominating the AHL.
They may be future NHL starters, but it's hard to point to any who have a high probability of being impact players this March.
I thought Lindblom was coming around, but something is wrong there.
NAK looks good, but his 10 minutes a night on the 4th line is unlikely to be a season saver.
