Started yesterday (Feb3rd).......FIN,RUS,CZECH SWE and USA..

Scores Feb. 3rd:

RUS 5 SWE 3 ( 2 G for Alexander Radulov;Malkin held pointless)

FIN 5 CZECH 3 (2G+1A for Laurie Tukkonen)..Olesz not in Czech lineup=too old=
Oct '85 birthdate...

FYI --Ovechkin is too old for this tournament Sept '85 birthdate --he is however on a grizzled "vet" squad of RSL pros including ex-Blackhawks "alumni" Krivokrasov,Zelepukhin and Chebaturkin---the "immortals" --playing in THE SWEDEN GAMES Feb 5-8 in Sweden (well 1 game is in Helsinki) ...the Russkie squad will have some competancy as Tverdovsky and Yuskevich will anchor their D-corps (how Chebaturkin madeit beats me)....

Is there any reason for Malkin to not dominate this tournament?

I know that the Penguins sent several scouts to watch this game, even some of their NA guys.

AND the late game is now over on Day 2: RUSSIA 5 FINLAND 1
Malkin finally hit the goal column with a late 3rd period marker (the 5th Russian goal) to cap it..but they do not seem to be featuring him on offense = PP time and playing with the better scoring wingers---perhaps he's got a checking role for this tournamemt ...PLYUSCHEV seems to be the featured centre= 2 assists today --he had 2 goals in their first game yesterday......next up for Russia =Team USA .....

Too bad Canada couldn't have sent Team Pacific or Team Ontario to this tourney and they would probably come away with the gold!

This tournament ends tomorrow (2/7/04) right? Looks like Alexander Radulov and Roman Voloshenko are leading the tournament in points with 5 in three games to this point.

Day 3 scores: Feb 5th:

Rus 6 USA 5 ---Malkin and Radulov both had at least 1G+1A .....could not find out who scored the Russian GWG on penalty shot shot-out since game was tied after 3 periods.......perhaps someone can find out whoscored the shoot out game winner for Russia and post this info...

CZECH 3 SWE 0

Day 4 in game #1: CZECH 5 USA 1 ---not a lot of shots for both teams---USA goal-tending not good 5 goals on 19shots I believe...

Game #2 todaY: FIN 2 SWE 0

Sweden has now played 4 games and only beat the USA (2-1) .....but worse than going home 1-3 they were SHUT OUT in their 2 last games!

DAY #5 goes tomorrow with a showdown between RUSSIA and the CZECHS.......theother game is Finland vs. USA.......

Ovechkin plays in Russian's team at Sweden Hockey Games. He could also play in U20-tournament in Finland.

Well he could have played in that U-20 tournament--but he cannot since he's playing in the Sweden Games= cannot be in 2 places at once...BUT there is a chance he'll be on the Russian team at the World Hockey Championships later this spring against some euro vet pros and NHL'ers out of or eliminated in round one of the playoffs...I hope that happens so we can see him against some NHL'ers...
