At any rate, I think Kinkaid is showing he belongs so far. I hope he gets more opportunities given how quickly they were running Schneider into the ground.

Since Gomez left NJ, I really didn't pay much attention to him to be honest. I just laughed at his struggles from afar. Watching him closer now, I can't see how anyone can say that the guy can't play. I'm not sure that he looks better because our forward crops is so pathetic at the moment, but Gomez still sees the ice so well and he can still distribute the puck at a high level. I've been very impressed with him. On a team lacking creativity x 1000, he's been great to watch. And you can tell that's he's really working at this.

What I like that I see from Kinkaid is his ability to basically swallow the puck and not allow any rebounds more often than not.

Compare that to Cory who is simply allowing pucks to ricochet off of him and it's like night and day.

Kinkaid is more acrobatic as well. Reminds me of Richter a little bit. He is better with his stick, challenges the shooter and has absolute lightning reflexes.

He is a bit unpolished, Cory is more fundamentally sound but Kinkaid when he's on (and he has been the past 2 games) is just a pleasure to watch. In the same way a great center fielder is fun to watch in baseball.

Good quick glove too. Poke checks

But is pretty bad handling the puck.

Lol I didn't see yesterday's game, bc I'm vacationing in preds territory, but if you're saying he's bad in comparison to schneids, that's pretty bad :amazed::help:

I may be flamed for this, but Kinkaid reminds me of Carey Price a bit, but obviously not as talented.

I absolutely love the way Severson's game is shaping up...each game we are seeing a little more polish...Kid played 25 minutes like that was what he was born to do. That was the 8th game Severson has played 25+ minutes this season and his 29th straight 20+ minute game.

It's a damn shame we are so bad because I think a lot of what Severson is doing right now as a 20 year old is being missed because of the horrific product we put on the ice...I love what this kid is doing so much.

Nice post. I agree with you completely. One of the greatest and most unexpected pleasures of this season is watching Damon play. The amount of TOI that he can handle on a consistent basis thus far has been amazing, and I'm really proud of how well he has done with top pairing minutes on our team. As fans, we are very fortunate Damon emerged at the NHL level when he did, because it's hard to know whom Lou envisioned playing in that slot next to Andy since Damon wasn't expected to make the team but made such a strong push for it at training camp that he made the roster. All I know is that it's very hard for me to imagine a Devils team without Damon (and I don't want to because it's ugly  ) and he's only been on the squad since October.

It's a shame that what he's doing as a twenty year old might be getting overlooked just because the team's poor record kind of makes everyone look bad by proxy, but at least us fans can appreciate it:yo:

His poise in stopping the partial breakaway was awesome. I initially panicked because I've been conditioned lately with Harrold, Zids, and to a lesser extent, Gelinas. But Severson is cool as a cucumber.

Yeah, Severson's composure is remarkable. It's one of his best attributes.

uggghh up here in Canada. I cant take much more loss of points. When are we going to learn how to win some shoot outs? It is going to cost us the playoffs again this year.

and next year no Jagr. Damn that guy makes things happen. i was at the Flames game the night we choked and watching him is incredible,

Come on Lou, find someone who can score in the damn shoot out.

That is why you should win in regulation. Oh, you can't? Well **** me then. Although when you look at the big picture, you should also win a shootout every now and then. This season was lost due to a variety of reasons, and the shootout isn't the biggest of the problems we have.

The Devils are 3-25 in shootouts since the beginning of the 2012 .. total ineptness! The 0-13 was a key reason why there were no playoffs for the Devs last season. It might not be the biggest problem that the team has, but it's a big deal. It's another clear indicator that the Devils lack skillful playmakers.

The shootout is honestly symptomatic of the team's general lack of skill though, that's why I get tired of the luck argument with it. If we had better forwards we wouldn't be losing all these shootouts, shoot we probably wouldn't be getting to as many in the first place.

Here is the answer to the shootout question.

Most of the shootouts we've been to this season were after blowing two goal leads.

The one that we won against Winnipeg and the one against Dallas were the only games we didn't lead by two in.

25th in goals for. The shootout is a convenient excuse for the pathetic roster.

When Gomez is your best forward the last few weeks you know you have a bad team.

The lack of speed and skill was very evident last night.

The Devils played their hearts out and got good goaltending, but the Islanders have a lot of talent that can make plays and they try to make them.

NYI will dump it into the zone as a last resort, not as the primary option we see under Pete's strategy.

I still have not seen a Devils opponent yet this season where I thought the Devils were the more talented squad.

UPDATED PLAYER POS INJURY
12/16/14 Dainius Zubrus RW Leg
12/15/14 Mike Cammalleri LW Lower Body
12/09/14 Patrik Elias LW Groin
12/08/14 Adam Larsson D Illness
11/17/14 Bryce Salvador D Lower Body
11/11/14 Ryane Clowe LW Head

You have a whole line of players out. I'm not playing that card, but this lineup with four of those forwards in the mix are a whole lot better than what alot of fans give them credit for.

Only worth it if Elias re finds his game because of not the only forward we are actually missing is Camm.

Can't ignore missing Henrique and Zajac. If Camm was producing, Idk what's going on with Patrik. Clowe CAN be an impact but it looks like he's kaput.
